you have to get the omakase nigiri at the sushi bar. this is the best sushi in the country! especially if you're lucky enough to be served by nori-san.
get the veggie platter, which is the quintessential large plate of injera covered with several veggie options. if you're extra hungry, add the tibsi fish. i also get steamed milk with honey.
Imagine the most tender octopus in an italian mole-like stew. Combine that with delish pasta, meat plates, and incredibly kind service- win win win.
great sustainable fish dishes. recs: saigon sandwich but as a salad, burger, red or white clam chowder. their specials and desserts are amazing too.
best korean in sf. you have to try the soon dobu, which has incredibly creamy and fresh tofu.
Get the pupusas. Especially the pork/beans/cheese one. I try to order just one and a side salad.
you can't go wrong with the shabu here! get the large plate, with half beef and half lamb (i ask for extra lean, but doesn't seem that different). spicy miso broth and red bean ice cream ftw.
Trust the specials- meat, vegetarian, or both. And definitely the special salad!
if they have it, get the chicken liver mousse. it's better than foie gras. i'd pass on the bacon donuts, but love their soups and steak.
great ramen and soba. i recommend the basic negi-ramen with the tonkatsu (rice with fried pork cutlet) added on the side.
i recommend the special miso soup and the shira-ae salad, which is a variety of veggies with a delish tahini miso sauce.
bone-in filet. the bandwagon has a point. the salads are good too, and i'd skip the crab.
Bun Cha Handi on the dinner menu- wrap-it-yourself pork with lots of veggies and vermicelli.
Fantastic buffalo burger. I get it with pineapple, jalepeno, and monterey jack. Their fries are amazing too.
less pretentious and cheaper than the original slanted door. i highly recommend the spring rolls, papaya salad, and crab noodles.
go simple- they're so intense. halal chicken with artichoke is a fave of mine. and order ahead!
best cooked fish in the city. especially the butterfish and the seabass if they're in season.
the hot masala chai and the egg bowl with smoked salmon. add the quinoa waffles if you're extra hungry.
fresh homemade bread from scratch. they sell out, so aim to get there around lunchtime for the best selection. their basic whole wheat and sticky buns are fantastic.
delicious rice pudding! couldn't find anything close in buenos aires. i love the simple plain.
pomegranate swirled with chocolate, with magic shell and almonds on top. maybe with a fruit compote to boot.
best breakfast burrito, hands down. i recommend the plain egg with beans on whole wheat tortilla, and 3 salsa cups for 2 cups of casera and 1 cup of something different (mango salsa?).
I love their egg white frittattas. Be sure to ask what the sauteed vegetable is- it can be quite starchy,
get a patcharela, with green or red sauce and several toppings. i love their eggs, fresh pico de gallo, with beans. their chicken and potatoes are amazing too.
it's not on the menu, but get the foie gras! since it's federal land, they're not prevented from serving it. the meatloaf, kale salad, ane beignets are also delish.
the chicken salad is amazing. the small has one piece, the large has two pieces. they have multiple locations too, so if one's too crowded, check out the others.
best croissants in the city. also wonderful rye bread (preorder since it's impossible to nab on the spot), bread pudding, and lemon tarts.
