I love the slow life beside the temple which located in the big city, calm and peaceful. Great even it was a short visit.

대한불교조계종의 직할교구의 본사(本寺)이자 총본사로 중앙총무원 ·중앙종회(中央宗會) 등이 있는 한국 불교의 중심지이다. 1395년(태조 4녀)에 창건된 사찰로 1910년 승려 한용운(韓龍雲), 이회광(李晦光) 등이 각황사(覺皇寺)라 불렀던 유래가 있으며, 일제강점기에는 태고사(太古寺)로 불리다가 1954년 불교정화 이후 조계사로 개칭하였다. 이 절은 대웅전(大雄殿)의 규모가 웅장할 뿐 아니라 문살의 조각이 특이한 것으로 유명하며, 경내에는 천연기념물 제9호인 서울 수송동의 백송(白松)이 있다.
