The White House is a beautifully kept historic residence. Enjoy the tour with reservations made well in advance.
Everyone should take a tour of the White House...but you'll need to make reservations in advance of your trip. Rather, you'll need to schedule your trip around the reservation. But highly worth it.
Definitely worth the tour, remember you need to set it up months in advance, easiest to go through your representative.
Tours of the Capitol building can be arranged through the Visitor Center website (or by calling or emailing your Representative's or Senator's office a few weeks in advance).
Staff are very helpful and courteous. The guided tours are well done and well organized. They provide headphones so you can hear the guide speak.

The gargoyle tour is awesome. Set aside lots of time for this awesome place - I easily could have spent all day learning all the fun history, listening to the organ and choir, and discovering secrets.
If you're a student visiting, remember to bing your student ID for a discounted admission. Be sure to take advantage of the highlight tour (free with admission, offered every 30 minutes)

Audio tour is not worth the extra money. The tour is worth the time & the theater is amazing. You can see directly into the box where Lincoln was shot.

We did a Segway your and a bicycle tour. GREAT way to see and learn about the sights! Best tour guides-very enthusiastic, very knowledgeable.
If you plan on going try reserving tickets for tour, if you cannot get yours first thing in morning to come back through.
Avoid hopping on a tour of the temporary exhibits. They don't limit tour size and it gets so big you lose the benefits of a tour.
Take the tour. Its well worth it. I spent about 3 hours in this museum, it has 4 stories full of the history of the holocaust and WWII in general. Leaves you speechless
Call ahead and try to schedule a tour to go down the steps. Especially good if you get an experienced guide that can give you all the history. Better than just viewing from the top and taking elev!
Though tours to the top of the monument have been closed because of the earthquake, this place is great for picnics and admiring one of the nations most notable structures.

This beautifully maintained mansion boasts one of the most remarkable collections of Russian decorative art outside of Russia. Enjoy afternoon tea after one of their docent or audio tours.
The estate and gardens were beautiful. The docent tour was well worth the wait. The cafe's strawberry walnut salad was delicious.

Check out the Lincoln Memorial at night. It's way more beautiful at night with the lights on and is a great way to avoid tour crowds.
