The latest baby panda at the National Zoo was born Aug. 23, 2013. It's a girl born to Tian Tian and Mei Xiang. Washington pandarazzi will have to wait four months for an in-person look at the cub. Read more.
Be on the lookout for Black Squirrels. The animals were introduced by the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and can be a common sight in the city.

It can get pretty warm in here. Nice exhibits but the animals are scarce and hard to find.
The mammals are pretty interesting, but you'll see more at the bird house
Somewhat off of the beaten path and so less crowded. Like a combination of aquarium and jungle exhibit.
Make sure u look up in the Rainforest so u don't miss the monkeys...
My step son had to see the pirañas and as soon as we stepped into the Amazonia house these lovely pink birds were so close we could have touched them! We didn't though! #noglassexhibition
The lions and tigers don't love the heat of the day. Come early or near 4 for feeding times!
The people at the gift shop are not helpful they don't even know the names of the monkeys at the zoo

A must see and has an indoor exhibit for hot summer days. Only one of 4 Zoos in the US which has Pandas.
Go see the red pandas instead! They are smarter, more beautiful, and more active.
Go early in the morning to see the pandas outside of the house.
The feeding is usually around 11:15am. If you bring a tennis ball, the pup will play with you

It's definitely great to see the elephants here, but sometimes you can get a better view from the bridge on the Asia Trail

Be sure to check out the red pandas - they just had two babies!

The wolves & under water seal & sea lion areas are particularly cool. Great exhibit.
