Trivia: "angel's share" is a term that describes the wine that escapes through evaporation during the barrel aging process. (I learned this at a bourbon tasting down in New Orleans)
Go upstairs to the Japanese restaurant and go left through the unmarked door. Quiet, intimate, and great drinks. Loved the Smoke in Your Face whiskey cocktail - it's exactly what it sounds like.
Going nuts trying to find it? You're not alone. Enter through Yokocho and take the unmarked door on the left and enter into another world. Order the Stormy Weather and make interesting conversation.
This Japanese run speakeasy always keep good control on the atmosphere: music with perfect volume, never over crowded. Whisky fans should try their smoke get on your face. *Off the menu: earl grey gin
You will wait for a seat but it's worth it to try ANY of the drinks, especially the 'smoke gets in your eyes'. Go later on a week night for faster seating. Worth the wait either way!
With its dark, soft-yellow lighting, intimate space and creative cocktails, this speakeasy's got all the makings for a romantic East Village evening. Try the Quintessence cocktail. Read more
Two really good non alcoholic options and so many interesting cocktails. Got the Smoke in Your Eyes and they pour your drink into a smoke filled goblet in front of you.
Very good cocktails in a very cool atmosphere! You have to enter through the Chinese restaurant to get here. Quite different from most places. Would recommend
This speakeasy has a secret speakeasy inside it Thursday-Saturday. You actually use a separate secret entrance! Make sure you check it out! Try Sharaku instead of the Village Yokocho 😉🤐
Hidden inside a often loud japanese tapas restaurant. Good place to take your out of town friends to, because this spot basically defines the whole speakeasy experience. Good drinks, small cozy space.
NY has made me love speakeasies. Speakeasies have made me truly appreciate great cocktails. Absolutely delicious cocktails are certainly found here. Highly recommended; if you can find the door..
Love angel's share! It's a gem. The cocktails are always on point, servers and bar tenders are super friendly and knowledgable. Get the smoke in your eyes- campfire scented Manhattan.
Get the watermelon man. It has tequila, watermelon, rose syrup, rose water & rosemary. Not sure if they still have the Serenity but it had vodka, homemade lychee liquor, rose water & citrus juices.
Best date spot. There's a wait but never really more than 20 min. Drinks are great, snacks are great. It's super cozy and intimate. Hands down my favorite cocktail bar in NYC. Window seat's the best.
Definitely check out this tucked away gem. The location has great vibes and the volume is maintained at a low murmur. Smokey whiskey literally had a fragrant glass of smoke with whiskey. So cool.
My favorite cocktail bar in NYC because I love fruity and nicely made cocktail drinks. They also have an extensive whiskey list. The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable and can make custom drinks.
Very good cocktails. Nice & cosy atmosphere if you don't seat next to the main door as the long queue of people waiting to get in keeps the door opened and you can hear the noise from the restaurant.
Some of my absolute favorite cocktails in NYC. The "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is fantastic, but you should really try the "Flirtibird" with the shiso+yuzu - truly unusual and exceptional flavors. 👌
Classic NYC cocktail bar. Speakeasy vibe with a Japanese aesthetic. Highly unique cocktails. Excellent collection of Japanese whiskies and sakes as well.
This hidden bar impresses even the most jaded New Yorkers. A little Tokyo gem with all the right Japanese sensibilities...but don't be shocked if they're out of your Japanese whiskey of choice
Awesome spot overall! The staff here is super friendly and responsive and the drinks are amazing. Try to get here before 1030 or you might not have a spot without a long wait..
This speakeasy housed in Village Yokocho has some of the best cocktails to be found in the city. The Serenity (citrus vodka, lychee liquor) and the Cheek to Cheek are some of the sweeter options.
A true speakeasy feel. The side room is great for small groups of friends catching up. The Smoke Gets In Your Eyes is an experience to order and drink. A welcoming campfire in a glass.
My friend ordered the "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" 💨 and said it tastes like a barbecue. You know when you're drinking at a barbecue and the smoke keeps getting in your eyes? Yeah, that feeling. 😂
There's a sibling Japanese whiskey, scotch, and bourbon bar now open two doors to the left. Walk up the unmarked stairwell. Get a scotch based Islay Sour.
Hidden away, this place has a menu that's rich in every drink category, each drink with a story. The mood is always laid back, which makes for a great place to catch up with friends.
Speakeasy w/a secret entrance above a bookstore in The Village, infused liquids & craft cocktails, beautiful picture window looking out over the Village especially lovely on a snowy winter night
This secret cocktail lounge is hidden behind a door near the entrance of Japanese restaurant Village Yokocho. If coming for the first time, make sure to sample one of the rum-based drinks.
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes may be unlike any cocktail you've ever had. The drinks are incredible and definitely worth the price and/or the wait. Keep your party at four or less or they won't seat you.
Walk inside Village Yokocho and immediately walk upstairs (there’s no ground floor). At the top of the stairs glance left at a door with benches outside of the door. You’ll know by the horde of people
This is my favorite cocktail place in the city. Don't miss it. Walk upstairs, find the unmarked door right by the stairs and walk into what is also one of the coziest spots for a drink.
An awesome speakeasy-style bar hidden in the back of a Japanese restaurant in the East Village. We love their exotic cocktails, especially the Summer Breeze cocktail off the specials menu.
Yes it's upstairs and within the sushi restaurant. I had a drink that literally tasted like an orange creamsicle. Super intimate and fun experience for friends visiting from out of town!
Amazing, incredible craft cocktails. Evidence is a great off-menu cocktail made with their house-infused Earl Gray Gin. The Autumn Leaves is my personal favorite.
Go up the stairs and through the Japanese restaurant to find this intimate cocktail den. It’s tough to get a seat, but once you do, you’ll be in heaven. Sun-Wed: 6pm-1:30am | Thur-Sat, 6pm-2am
"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and "Boulevardier" are both phenomenal. The attention to detail is unmatched in this amazing and quaint speakeasy/cocktail bar. I can't recommend this place enough.
One of the top speakeasy spots in the city. Second only to Attaboy in my opinion, and that has everything to do with bartender personality and ambience. Cocktails here are phenomenal.
The best cocktails I've ever had. Our party of 3 tried 6 different drinks and it was impossible to rate in order because each one was just as crazy good as the next.
New favorite drink, Moanin' truly lives up to it's name. Plus it comes in a really cool dome shaped cup. You can never go wrong with Japanese Yamazaki whiskey. I love this place.
The bartenders at this cozy cocktail nook have certainly refined their craft to a high level. There's a cocktail for every taste here and then some. Great date spot.
The moon at noon cocktail taste like a worthers candy! so good! I also really enjoyed the old fashioned. If you dont get a spot right away just head next door and down some sake while you wait.
