- JeffreyJuly 20, 2014Three-thigh fried-chicken plate, with biscuits and hot sauce; the hot breast sandwich; the equally incendiary hot fish. There’s also a classic burger, an irresistible pimento-poblano grilled cheese.Upvoted 2 days ago
- EaterJuly 18, 2017The Commodore is a true locals’ bar with boozy slushies and bright red drinks. The chicken biscuit stands up to the one at Pies ‘N’ Thighs, and the chilaquiles are an easy brunch order.
- Jess NaldoApril 21, 2016They'll let you awkwardly stand up eating your AMAZING fried chicken on the pinball machine after getting kicked out of a table reserved for a Monday night DJ, unaware there's an outdoor area 🙄
- Village VoiceApril 9, 2015The cheeseburger's patty is seared & slipped onto a Martin's potato roll with lettuce sliced to ribbons, thick pickle chips, chopped white onion, bound with mayonnaise. It's reliably delicious!
- Umair ZiaMarch 19, 2014$3 Schaefer's Beer and $7 grilled cheese?! Child, please... Best deal I've come across NYC to slum it. For $5 more, upgrade to 'adult' cheese sandwich (w/ peppers) plus tomato basil soup. #MomSlapGood
- Dive bar & fried chicken? Doesn't make sense. But somehow, it works beautifully. Seat yourself (you may have to wait a bit) & order @ the bar. They'll bring it to you. The honey butter is MAGIC.
- Arpit UppalNovember 14, 2018I had the hot sandwich, really good, wish it was crispie, next time I am gonna get the 3-piece plate! Also the house drinks are good! Combined with a divey/tropical theme, I’ll def come back!
- Emily KaneFebruary 20, 2015You may have to be a bit aggressive to snag a table; but it's absolutely worth it. All of the food is beyond incredible, and they have fun old-timey cocktails like a sloe gin fizz!
- Hanna ParkMay 20, 2014You'd never expect such a divey dive bar to have such amazing food... The hot fish sandwich is perfectly crispy, fish hanging off the sides of the bun, perfectly spicy, and piping hot. Chkn is oily.
- I never see the same people working. Everyone working is always the greatest, which is more than I can say for the obnoxious customers like myself. A great place and I love it.
- Gentrifried ChickenNovember 6, 2011ALMOST as good as Pies N Thighs. We get in fights over this one all the time. Either way, excellent fried chicken and the honey butter is a winner. Get a tiki drink with your meal. Read more
- First We FeastAugust 3, 2014Burgers aren't eaten in a vacuum. As with all dining experiences, a good product can be augmented by the surroundings, which is exactly why this food-focused dive bar wins every time. Read more
- Charlie SouthwellMarch 8, 2014Seriously this place rocks. Order fried chicken and beer at the bar. The chicken is easily big enough for 2 to share - or to give away a couple of pieces and make friends. DO IT!
- Love this place! The burger is delicious and well worth it for $7. The nachos are kind of weird w "queso" instead of melted cheese.
- Village VoiceSeptember 16, 2013For the fried chicken lover, Chef Stephen Tanner’s kitchen serves up three crispy mammoth thighs and honey butter biscuits with the Egg and Pies ‘n’ Thighs, a dish you’re sure to love.
- Chris SsentongoJune 16, 2018The portions are huge! The fried chicken is banging. Did I mention the portions are huge?
- Alex RobertsonSeptember 3, 2019I guess you gotta just look at the fried chicken as (admittedly very highly) elevated bar food because I dunno, it’s not THAT good otherwise. $14 for three thighs and three small biscuits. Lotsa skin
- David RosenbergAugust 5, 2014Your day will improve as soon as your cross the threshold of this establishment. Now, get a table and order the following: hot breast sando + a million boat drinks + nachos for the table. 🏆
- Sandor GAugust 25, 2015I had fish tacos. Surprisingly good. Good salsas.... a green and a chipotle, decent slaw, fish was nice and really thin crispy batter, not a heavy floury batter. Six or so beers on tap. Totally decent
- Best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Now everywhere else I get fried chicken is a disappointment. Also, Cyclone pinball machine on free play!
- Rachel PortMarch 1, 2016Wow the fried chicken biscuit was OUT of this world amazing. With the grits!!! Also tried the burger and pork hash.
- The fried chicken is solid - one of the best in the city. Comes with mini melty biscuits and if you want to feel a bit better about yourself, the kale salad is quite good.
- Amazing fried chicken sandwich. Might be as big as your face. Split one if you're not starving to death and grab one of their cheap essential cocktails.
- Riqui LawrenceSeptember 17, 2019Burger with cheese, egg and bacon, pork hash and chicken sandwich are amazing choices. Be advised that there is no sign. Know the address!
- Cole Kennedy2 weeks agoDunno if it’s the best fried chicken, but the hot breast sandwich was pretty darn good. Small, loud space that I like better for day drinking than late night.
- The hot breast is about twice as big as the bun. Bring a hefty appetite. There's also cheap beer, you can't go wrong.
- First We FeastAugust 3, 2014At $12, the fried chicken meal is an inexpensive and ideal bar snack to line your stomach before you consume multiple piña coladas (or frozen mojitos, if that's more your thing). Read more
- Joanna FlammNovember 29, 2013I should hate this place (looks like a '70s basement), but instead it's my favorite spot in Williamsburg. The fried chicken is the star, and the honey butter will leave you licking your fingers.
- Brad KleinOctober 17, 2021Really wanted to try the fried chicken but kitchen currently closed due to fire. Free pizza was a nice consolation; will be back someday!
- I've had the burger at least 5 times, can't say that about anywhere else. I truly think it it's a great burger & the best $7 burger in NYC.
- Brian BrownNovember 10, 2012Great place to go when your rum loving sailor friend is suddenly killed in a freak accident and you need a dank corner to drink yourself stupid. Try the fried chicken and the Piña Coldas!
- QbertplayaNovember 25, 2010The $4 plate of fries is more than enough for 3 people. The $7 cheeseburger is perfect. Happy hour 2 for 1 beers/well drinks from 4-7pm make a trip even more worthwhile.
- Marie La RueJanuary 23, 2020Fried chicken destination. Lively bar area. Good for day drinking.Upvoted 2 weeks ago
- Stina P.October 6, 2014best fried chicken in the neighborhood. order from the bar, seat yourself. grab a table on the patio out back on a soon to be fall night
- Nate DorrDecember 4, 2014Of course the hot breast is great, but the very unconventional green salad with pickles and cheddar is easily overlooked and an excellent starter.
- Sam GilApril 4, 2016Hot breast sanga was spot on. Nachos were quality too and solid drinks. Outdoor patio is chill. Only downside is trying to order food at a very hectic bar.
- Chris VodolaMarch 12, 2015Alright, this is some absurdly crispy fried chicken. Also there might be crack in the nachos. Nab a booth in the front and hunker down for an awesome drunk meal.
- Ben GiffordJuly 9, 2018Recommended by Phil for its well-considered kitsch drinks (piña colada, specifically), food (fried chicken), and general vibe. Diner-esque.
- Monica CullenApril 29, 201612$ for three HUGE fried chicken pieces with biscuits and three delicious sauces. Also had an amazing frozen margarita. Go! Now!
- AmateurConciergeDecember 1, 2017Solid dive. Love the porthole with the fish tank. Drink here while u wait for your table at St Anselm
- First We FeastAugust 4, 2014Order this: Fried chicken plate, hot fish sandwich, kale Caesar salad, cheeseburger, biscuits with honey butter Read more
- Sick amazing insane food! The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and the green salad was light and refreshing.
- WyngspanJanuary 27, 2014This is not your average dive bar. This southern style restaurant offers up some of the best burgers and fried chicken in the city. Leave a trust rating to help spread the word: http://bit.ly/1mOq5L4
- Get. The. Nachos. Best in Williamsburg. UFO goes best with the slightly spicy treat. Also, perfect date if you're on a budget.
- Time Out New YorkJuly 29, 2011This nautical dive has some of the city’s best bar food, including a knockout cheeseburger with mayo and sliced half-sour pickles tucked beneath an amply salted LaFrieda patty. Read more
- Jisu PJune 7, 2014Cheap, good food and drinks BUT tables are kind of dirty and sticky. Its VERY hard to get a table. $20 card minimum for drinks. I like this place a lot when I can find a seat!
