- Always my go to for large, rowdy, group dinners - perfect before a night out. Cheap, yummy mexican food and pitchers on pitchers on pitchers of margaritas and sangria!Upvoted 3 days ago
- All you can eat on Monday nights – check with your server, because sometimes Patron margaritas are the same price as house margaritas. Save yourself a hangover.
- Allie PrinceDecember 8, 2013Excellent service - fun atmosphere - delicious food and awesome drinks & the dessert is to die for especially the fried ice cream :)
- Excellent spot for work lunch. Fajitas are the best (comes with free margarita) ask for giant sombrero hat! (Don't try to leave with it =o[. )
- Cora LambertMarch 24, 2013Monday Night: $4 Margaritas and complimentary chips/salsa (upstairs bar); All you can eat Mexican $11.99 (restaurant). This spot is tacky in the most wonderful way.
- The happy hour prices went up recently. It went from $4 per drink to $5. But always a fun night. Get there early, get a table, listen to some good music and DANCE
- Everything that I have tried here I have loved. The food is great. The drinks are great. They have the best happy hours ever.
- The Corcoran GroupSeptember 23, 2011Skip the food and go straight to the second floor for the all night Happy Hours on Monday and Thursdays where you can dance to Bachata and Salsa – the crowd is a bit older.
- Diash RichardsApril 19, 2013The bar/party floor is good. But good drinks, super crowded by 6pm, good music. If you are looking to drink and dance early it's a good after work spot.
- Jill StricklandJuly 17, 2015No line, friendly staff. Delicious food from appetizers, soups, through entrees. Free frozen lemon margarita was a loved bonus
- BarbaraJuly 31, 2013Good people watching by the window. I had mussels& shrimps which was good. My friend ordered arroz con pollo and was highly disappointed. Sangria was good!
- Happy hour drinks and different flavored margaritas are delicious.
- Ian KaysOctober 8, 2014One of my all time fav mexican spots in NYC. Friendly and attentive staff compliment the amazing food.
- Max SklarApril 11, 2013Food is great but the portions are big - try not to make the same mistake I once made by eating too many chips before the meal. Those chips are damn good though.. maybe I'll just have one more.
- Ray GordonFebruary 27, 2010Highly recommend this place for the margaritas. Order a couple pitchers with dinner and stick around long enough and the friendly staff just might bring out a round of tequila shots on the house
- Daniel HakimiJuly 4, 2015It's a dive bar. Nothing's really *good.* But $6 margs and free food at happy hour is solid. The restaurant side of things isn't really good.
- frozen margaritas are best in the city: I KNOW-I've tried them ALL in my 7yrs in NYC.I'm from Texas & LA so i know what talkn 'bout. also guacamole, chorizo, steak fajitas, cheese enchiladas Read more
- Denise Wei-VitalSeptember 7, 2012Love the chimichangas and margaritas. The service is on point. They very attentive and hard working!
- Jackie OMarch 15, 2010Amazingly strong margaritas, also a bar upstairs. Great guac and delish food! They usually bring a free round over if you buy a drink or two. (We prefer the pitchers.)
- the food is always good (if not great) but the best thing about el cantinero is the service. the guys here are fantastic. I've not known another place in the city so accomodating aa el can't.
- Michael BrownAugust 25, 2014tacos are great. burritos are great. sangria and frozen margaritas are awesome
- Mary GazellaSeptember 5, 2011The watermelon margarita is very tasty, and it sure gets the job done! If you have to work the next day, stick to only one.
- smileynicoley012May 7, 2011The frozen margarita pitcher was good. I split it with a friend and we agreed that sharing it with another works too.
- Ruben GuerreroAugust 11, 2015The worse Mexican food we've had in a while. Both my fiancé and I had a bite of our dishes and returned the rest. The margarita tasted of cheap syrupy mix and cheap tequila. Staff was nice though.
- Free glass of margarita or sangria with your lunch entree! Love this place :)
- KatNovember 19, 2012Flavored Frozen Margaritas For $5??? Yes Please!! Happy Hour all night every night!! :)
- Eliana RodriguezAugust 2, 2013$5 drinks from 5pm-4am on Thursdays with free wings. And dancing. Can't beat that
- Matt28800 @July 6, 2011Have loved this place for years great drinks (very strong) and great authentic Mexican
- Khadine AzeezApril 14, 2013Really think this place is overrated. The prices are very reasonable however the food was tasteless and drinks watered down. They sit you pretty quickly, however the staff is lacking personality!
- nicoleJune 19, 2010Amazing happy hour every day of the week $4 drinks...interesting crowd but a pleaser!
- No matter how many times I go here and order margaritas, I'm always shocked at how strong they are.
- Amy MixaOctober 19, 2012Margaritas are strong but we got the raspberry and it wasn't that good. LOVED the Chimichangas but wasn't impressed by the rest of the food.
- Bervely VictorinJanuary 28, 2012food is horrible, lacks authentic mexican spices but compensates with cheap drinks part of there happy hour. Avoid this place on Fridays and Saturdays; it turns; into a mini club and becomes overrated
- Lucy GoldsteinApril 2, 2011I felt safer visiting Rikers Island than I did at this place. The food was better at Rikers too.
