The station's only Oyster reader is often out of order. Top up the day before you need it, or you'll be in a Q of people trying to figure out what ticket they need 

Get here early or top up somewhere else, the station is mad house for tickets in the early morning

If your going into the city, sometimes it's quicker to get on the train to Victoria rather than London Bridge.
