In addition to the Boeing Aviation Hangar with historic aircraft of all types, you can also see spaceships and rockets, including the Space Shuttle Discovery. Don't miss the SR-71, either.
Why you're here: SR-71 Blackbird & Space Shuttle Discovery. These titans are in line with the entrance so you'll find them first. Stick around and the other, less famous craft will reward you as well.
Truly A-list museum. Very easy to combine with flying from Dulles. I saw plane I was on later in the day land from the observation tower! Must sees are Blackbird, space shuttle Discovery, Enola Gay...
180+ airplane collection including a SR-71, Concorde, 707, homebuilts, commercial, and military aircrafts, as well as the Discovery Shuttle. It's quite amazing! Only food option is McDonalds.
Loved this place! Really glad we managed to get to it in addition to the Air and Space Museum. SR-71 was the highlight for me but so much history around, it's really hard to pick a favourite.
Plan to see a movie in the 6-story IMAX theater...you wont regret it. See the Discovery Space Shuttle up close and learn about aviation and space history! Don't forget the museum store on your way out
İn here you just wanna be an astronot when you see the world from space in simulator .. boing aviation centre has also lots of type planes in there.. 👍
This is one of the best museums if you're into aviation. Strap in tight for the dogfight sim! Huge IMAX 3d with awesome movies. And of course the Enola Gay, Discovery, SR71, Tomcat, Concorde.
If your staying down town head over to L'Enfant Plaza & take the 5A to Dulles for $6.00 each way. Get in the Dulles 2 Dulles connector for $1.00. Worth the $7.00 to see the vast collection of planes.
This is hands down one of the very best museums in the country. The sheer size and scope of the exhibits is amazing. Great for kids, aside from McDonald's being the only food choice...
The shuttle Discovery, SR-71 Blackbird, and much of flight history. I can't believe it took so long to learn about this place. Only downside is $15/car parking. They always need volunteers, though!
Always amazes me. This is my 2nd visit. Not crowded. The guides are very knowledgeable. You will definitely learn something for the day be it on American history or aviation.
If crunched for time, skip the observation deck and go marvel at all the planes and, of course, the shuttle. Staff is knowledgable and friendly! They helped me locate my Uncle's plane.
Very cool museum and knowledge & friendly staff. But McDonald's? As an educational institution geared towards children, I find this incredibly irresponsible. Especially as no outside food is allowed
Highlights include the Discovery space shuttle and the observation tower with views to the Blueridge Mountains, Sugarloaf Mountain, and planes landing and taking off in Dulles airport.
To find all this history under one roof is literally hard to conceive. Our world today has been dictated in no small part by these very aircraft (and now, spacecraft!) in this single location.
Definitely a great museum to see. Plenty to learn and see. Museum is free, only had to pay for parking. But definitely worth the trip. It has items that don't fit in the DC museum.
Better than the downtown museum if you all me. Not crowded lots of parking ($15). Digital IMAX Theater. Space shuttle very cool. Observation deck where you can watch Dulles Airport traffic.
This is a great venue for aviation lovers and aircraft junkies. Aircraft of all types and several in the history books are found here. This is a well designed and well stocked museum.
Forget all the other Smithsonians, this one is the bomb. *Hangars* full of awesome aerospace history, including a retired space shuttle! (Also: largest IMAX screen in Virginia was great for Star Wars)
Fabulous museum! View of the flights coming into IAD is gorgeous in the fall from the observation deck..you can also listen to ATC, gift shop has great aviation memorabilia including Pan Am bags!
An extension of the National Air and Space Museum, drive here for fewer crowds and an impressive display of aviation and space artifacts, including the space shuttle Discovery.
See the Space Shuttle Discovery (OV-103), Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, Concorde, and Boeing B-29 Superfortress "Enola Gay." Visit the Observation Tower to do some plane spotting! Read more
Udvar-Hazy has one of the largest collections of aviation and space artifacts in the world. Don't miss the Space Shuttle Discovery, SR-71 Blackbird, flight simulators, guided tours, & the IMAX movies!
Great museum to visit, close to Dulles airport. Space shuttle Discovery, SR-71, Enola Gay, etc. Shuttle to/from IAD airport (door 2E) every 45 min. $2 RT fare. They even have lockers for your luggage.
Went to watch Jurassic World in IMAX but before the movietoured around the museum. It's so cool to see all the planes and space craft they have on display.. And it's FREE!
Far outside the city, but a great museum (and in my opinion way better than the Air & Space Museum on the Mall). Worth a visit if you can make it there!
Largely a great museum. The huge exception is the Enola Gayexhibit, the plane used to drop the A bomb, which still refuses to discuss whether it was right to do so. Go after 4PM for free parking.
Don't miss the model from Close Encounters of the Third Kind by the shuttle. Look for r2d2, a graveyard, and other items hidden on it. Airport tower was ok but I would skip if the lines are long.
Check out the great collection of aerospace cameras and catch a film in the IMAX theater. Awesome trip for camera buffs. Oh, and an incredible collection airplanes as well. Read more
Either eat before you go or except long lines at the McDonald's. 40 minutes in line for lunch at Mickey D's...really? Expected better process. The NASM is amazing, however, and worth the trip!
They did a phenomenal job with the aircraft displays and information! In other ways they fell short- accessibility issues for the handicapped. Elevators too few and far between.
Actually better than the Air & Space museum in the National Mall. The SR-71 and Shuttle are great along with a vast fleet of other arial artifacts. Read more
