Absolutely worth a visit! A wonderful location in Cimiez, a district of Nice. It's a awesome art gallery.A very diverse artwork of Matisse in the house where he lived some years at the end of his live!
The collection is modest. However, Cimiez itself is a worthwhile trip. Don't miss the monasterygardens for a fantastic view of Nice. Adjacent to the monastery is this cemetery where Matisse is buried
The collection is forgettable, but don't miss the Archaeology Museum next door with the Roman ruins, as well as the monastery through the park, which has a fantastic view from its gardens.
On top of a hill, this museum is located in a nice and typical French Riviera mansion overlooking Nice! Admission is free for students and on the first Sunday of every month so check it out!
Great museum for an insight into how matisse created and produced his works. Ignore the other user who says its rubbish. its quite worth the 1.50 euro bus ride up. Free entry.
This is dedicated to the French artist Henry Matisse. Aside from his works, you'll also find art by Auguste Herbin and Geneviève Claisse. Also don't miss the Henri Cartier-Bresson collection.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year (2013), check out the 'Un Été pour Matisse' exhibitions happening throughout Nice until September 2013. Read more
If you have a choice between the Matisse Museum and Marc Chagall Museum - go to Chagall. I found the Matisse museum a bit boring with almost no famous works. Felt like it was ransacked :-(
It has a lot of his sketches and simpler, smaller, and earlier works. It's free, so if you're in the area it's a must. Plus the garden outside is beautiful.
Visited this afternoon and enjoyed it but be prepared for a minimal exhibition on Matisse's works. Would have liked to see more but gues you have to go further afield to do so
The art is quite specific - mostly Matisse's admirers would appreciate. Traveling by bus, make sure you are not late, which means well before 18:00. You'll struggle to catch the bus after that.
