Second Harvest Heartland
Second Harvest Heartland is the largest hunger relief organization in the upper Midwest, working to end hunger through community partnerships.
We're known for distributing great amounts of food quickly and efficiently; in 2011 alone, we collected, warehoused and distributed more than 70 million pounds of food—and we’re also constantly pioneering ways to find and gather even more.
We're a member of Feeding America, a national network of food banks serving every state in the country. But locally, we partner with more than one thousand food shelves, soup kitchens and community programs that help us to get food to those who need it most.
We rely on a network of volunteers who respond by contributing thousands of hours every year to help the hungry. In a three-hour shift, a single volunteer provides a month of meals for a neighbor in need.
And we work hard to make the most of every dollar donated. Just $25 provides a week of meals for a family of four.
