Ralpharama: Still one of the best pubs in town but getting more expensive all the time! They also need to expand their meagre vegetarian options... Otherwise, top marks.

Paul Egglestone: Try the platters - get there early on sunny days and while away a couple of hours by the canal

9. Merchants 1688
Ben Hodgkinson: Great bar with good pub food, cask ales & wines in really nice setting. Well worth a look in. Check the specials board facing the bar.
10. The Sun Hotel and Bar
John Howarth: Fabulous real ale and whiskey selection....
11. Yorkshire House
Ralpharama: One of the great gems of Lancaster, open late(ish) most nights, nice yard area, good ale, alt-friendly for goths, punks and dogs-on-strings.
