I promised Blackmad to make this list of my favorite spots. A work in progress.
1. Shanghai Café Deluxe
Christen Duong: Good food with decent seating and no wait. Get the crab pork soup dumpling and the pork fermented greens rice cakes.
2. New Tu Do
Christen Duong: My go-to Vietnamese place in NYC. The best pho around this neck of the woods.
3. Shanghai Asian Manor
Christen Duong: my new favorite place for shanghai dumplings. the wrappers are so delicate you have to use those pliers to pick these babies up.
4. Buddha Bodai 佛菩提素菜
Christen Duong: i really like meat, but i enjoyed their fake meat. great veggie restaurant for a carnivore looking to branch out.
5. Grand Street Fruit Stand
Christen Duong: Hankering for some durian? Get in line and this man will cut and vacuum seal some for you.
6. Kung Fu Tea 功夫茶
Christen Duong: This place serves more than the typical blase bubble tea joint. Try the fruit or veggie teas for something different.
7. New Malaysia
Christen Duong: Get the ABC. In a bowl, not a cup. Only losers get it in a cup.
8. Congee Village 粥之家
Christen Duong: Get the house special chicken and the salted egg and pork congee.
9. Nam Son Vietnamese Restaurant
Christen Duong: Fried fish + (canh chua) sour seafood soup makes for a great family style meal
10. Nice Green Bo
Christen Duong: Used to be New Green Bo, now it's Nice Green Bo. Not sure of the name change, but do like the cheap rice dishes on the back of the menu.
11. Lam Zhou Handmade Noodle
Christen Duong: Total hole in the wall with the best plain ole pan fried dumplings I've had in a really long time.
12. Golden Unicorn Restaurant 麒麟金閣
Christen Duong: If you're not up for a schelp to Flushing or Sunset Park, this is probably the best dim sum you'll come by.
13. Dim Sum Go Go
Christen Duong: No Chinese people in sight, but it's a good place for a quick dim sum fix.
14. Dragon Land Bakery
Christen Duong: some of the fluffiest egg custards i've come by
15. Tai Pan Bakery 大班
Christen Duong: Go here for the biggest selection of Chinese baked goods in Chinatown
16. New York Mart
Christen Duong: The nicest supermarket in Chinatown, and I mean that in a nice, not trying to pick a safe place for Westerners kind of way. Go for sauces and packaged goods.
17. Paris Sandwich
Christen Duong: Yummy cream puff, and a few other delectable Vietnamese baked goods
18. Bo Ky Restaurant
Christen Duong: Great roast duck. The noodle soups are hard to come by, Cho Lon, Chinese-Vietnamese style. Worth trying if you haven't, though full of MSG (just like it is in Vietnam).
19. Amazing 66
Christen Duong: This is where I go for that old school New York Chinese restaurant experience. Try the lobster over sticky rice.
20. Chinese Pancakes cart
Christen Duong: The man who runs this cart is the nicest of the 20 for $1 little hotcake snack food vendors (there's probably 5 of them in Chinatown).
21. Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles Inc. 清味蘭州拉麵
