Can't make it to the beach? Don't like sand getting everywhere? Then escape the sweltering sidewalks of New York City than with a dip in one of these refreshing and relaxing pools!
1. Astoria Park Pool
The Corcoran Group: You can’t fathom how large this pool is until you experience it. As with any public pool, make sure you bring a lock, wear appropriate suits and follow all the rules.
2. Double D pool
The Corcoran Group: Free, Clean and Totally Awesome! Still a secret after all these years – come at the right time and almost the entire pool could be all just for you.
3. Tony Dapolito Recreation Center
The Corcoran Group: The outdoor pool is extremely busy during the summertime – if you’re lucky enough to score a chair, guard it with your life. Otherwise, enjoy the shallow and clean pool.
4. Le Parker Méridien New York
The Corcoran Group: The pool has amazing views of the city – it’s located in the penthouse – and it’s open year round. Non-guests/Members can purchase a day pass for $50.
5. Metropolitan Pool and Recreation Center
The Corcoran Group: Membership to this center (and all others) is $150 a year. You’ll get access to the clean and slightly chilly pool. Beware of the mandatory showers, they’re cold too!
6. Sol Goldman Pool - Red Hook
The Corcoran Group: All you can bring to the pool is a towel and a book – what more do you need to enjoy this massive and clean pool. Oh yeah, don’t forget your lock and if need be, a white t-shirt.
7. Manhattan Plaza Health Club (MPHC)
The Corcoran Group: Sign up for a summer membership to get access to their amazing pool (with a retractable roof) and everything else this attitude-free gym offers.
8. Mandarin Oriental, New York
The Corcoran Group: To access the pool, you could splurge and spend a night here. Then you could go for a swim and take in the spectacular views over the Hudson River.
9. Soho House
The Corcoran Group: An infinity pool in Manhattan? That’s what members will enjoy – along with impeccable service, comfortable lounge chairs and awesome views.
10. Hamilton Fish Recreation Center
The Corcoran Group: They have the same rules as other city pools, but are much more strict – down to the BRAND of lock you use. However, there’s plenty of room for everyone to enjoy.
11. 92nd Street Y
The Corcoran Group: The pool gets overly crowded because it’s not that big. However, it is clean, not overly chlorinated and has great lap hours.
12. Chelsea Piers Sports Center
The Corcoran Group: It’s either because of the wide lanes, the clean water or the glorious views of the Hudson, but this is the best lap pool in NYC. $50 day pass for non-members.
13. Room Mate Grace Hotel
The Corcoran Group: The swim up bar is fun and different but the mandatory coat check, random cover charges, sky-high drink prices and changing in the bathroom makes the pool lose its allure.
14. Asser Levy Recreation Center
The Corcoran Group: During the summer, use of the outdoor pools is free. To use the indoor pool, you need a membership. Everything is clean, relaxing, spacious and modern.
15. SIXTY LES Hotel
The Corcoran Group: Follow them on Facebook and then attend one of their many weekly pool parties during the summer to enjoy their fabulous Andy Warhol pool.
16. McBurney YMCA
The Corcoran Group: While it’s one of the best pools in the city, it’s generally overcrowded and not great for a serious workout. Day passes are $25.
17. Riverbank State Park - Pool
The Corcoran Group: This massive sports complex has seen it’s ups and downs, but nothing can compare to a 7:30am swim in the outdoor lap pool for only $3 – evening sessions require the $30/month membership.
