The 1001 statues of Kannon are impressive. One of the highlights of my trip! Check the back for some historical trivia. Get the pamphlet and read it because it's explanatory and succinct.

English boards litter the display but 95% of the Manga is in Japanese. Worth a look if you enjoy Manga. Better on Weekends as they have live Manga Studios - watch Manga being made.
It seems extra interesting for Japanese speakers, as it almost functions as a library. But for non Japanese speakers there's not a whole lot to do.
They should've called this the Manga Library instead. It's basically a huge Manga café where you can read mangas from all the different time periods. There's one big room with historic information too
Once you go under the viaduct, take the road to the far right (next to a small water stream) and climb up to a small, beautiful temple where very few tourists go!
The biggest wooden building in the world, with a giant buddha. Not to be missed! Go in the late afternoon for incredible light.
Go up to the top. It is is exhausting, but only few tourists do it, so you can actually take pics without having 50 strangers in your way and you'll be rewarded with a nice view of Kyoto.
Kinda overrated since the bamboo forest is not that big and you have to walk through it on a paved road. Avoid the big crowds by not going there on saturdays.

Sashimi is really nice. The sour grilled fish is cold and 😕. Hospitality can be improved. However, atmosphere was great and we overall enjoyed our dinner.

Best coffee in kyoto, by a country mile. The espresso is lovely and the pour overs were spot-on.

Cable car going uphill run every 30 min. Nice & relaxing walk thru the pine trees.
Kyoto's one day pass ticket 500 yen for buses. How to Use: one-day bus pass: insert the card in the slot beside the driver only the first ride. It can be purchased at information centers in Kyoto St.

We didn't try eating at other restaurants; we didn't have to. This is possibly the best spot in Arashiyama to have a meal. Authentic environment and beautiful views of the river.
Amazing sushi! Try the Chou-toro (fatty tuna belly) and Unagi (grilled eel). We couldn't get enough.
Food alley in the center of Kyoto. Tons of restaurants and bars. Most of them offer English menus. It's a bit narrow and crowded at peak hours. Restaurants at the riverside have outside dinning.
A must visit, when in Kyoto. Every city in Japan has this kind of cover street with a lot of stores. A bit "touristy" for my taste. But worth the walk.
Teramachi = Lots of shops for good bargains. Chicago, sells new and second-hand clothing. Lots of kimono and yukata and house jackets and accessories on the second floor at very decent prices.
A must-visit, despite its inconvenient location a taxi ride to the southwest of Kyoto Station. Tallest pagoda in Japan. Not much else to see but the pagoda and the lovely garden. Entrance is 600 Yen

Rooftop bar, the view is super! Don't mix it up, rooftop floor is "in the moon", the 9th floor is "in the soup." In the moon don't serve foods. Only peanuts.
While slightly difficult to find, this second floor French-influenced bar is a cozy place to enjoy some of the best cocktails of Kyoto.
One of the best bakeries in Kyoto! Too bad there isn't a larger and sunnier terrace.
At first we didn't want to go there. There are 15 rocks but no matter the angle, only 14 are seen. Then our friend (a local) wanted to take us there too and we did go. It was so amazing, so relaxing.
Amazing sushi bar. All looking and tasting fresh. Atmosphere at the counter is nice and chatty. Prices are reasonable! Look no further.
One of the best restaurants in Kyoto station. Good and cheap! It gets crowded around lunchtime and dinner time
Great atmosphere! Get their take on an Old Fashioned. Different but very nice. Don't expect an enormous selection of liqour besides whiskey though.
Former Sento, now cafe. Interior is super gorgeous and food is delicious. Recommend pancakes and house made ginger ale.

It's such a atmospheric little place. It's a traditional restaurant with a courtyard. The noodles and tempura are delicious. The JP menu has more dishes than the EN version so get the translator out!
I didn't think I liked udon until I ate here. It's freshly made, with many options for broth, toppings, etc. So cheap too!
Soba noodles used delicious!! tasty soup!!! Classy , clean place. they serve cold jasmine tea along with meal. You will leave here smiling.
