- One of the most futuristic looking airports in the USA, and fittingly bares some resemblance with some of the local subway stations' architecture
- etta yOctober 8, 2010You can make Super Shuttle reservations online. It's easy, you can't miss your ride, and it costs about half the price of a cab and takes half the time of the train (when going to Bethesda).
- If you're stuck in small airplane part of concourse A for a while, take the escalators towards B. There are far better amenities & quiet in the Int'l section of A.
- Concourse B is the most airy, open, bright terminal in all of Dulles. Even has a good assortment of food options. If you leave out of A, C, or D, they're a little gloomier.
- There's a Dunkin Donuts just outside of both United gates and before baggage claim. Get your morning brew!
- The Chipotle in Terminal B across from the Admiral's Club has breakfast options! Instead of rice, there are potatoes and eggs. Chorizo is a meat option instead of steak.
- There is a huge shoulder on the left on the way into the airport. It seems like a great “cell phone waiting area.” Legal?
- Courtney IveyJuly 7, 2013Signage is really bad at this airport. Once you find a sign, read, and then re-read it to make sure you're going in the right direction.
- Pomona ValeroApril 30, 2012The shuttle to the Air Space Museum is 0.50 each way. $15 + tip for a cab. Shuttle leaves every 45 min & the museum closes @5:30 these days.
- Scott MontgomeryMay 10, 2013If you have a flight out of Dulles, give yourself plenty of time from arrival to gate. Getting through TSA security is an hour or longer!!!
- Premium/Fart track does not always apply, prepare to stand in line for a good hour for security even when traveling business and top tier loyalty member.
- Possibly the most inefficient international airport east of the Mississippi River in the arrival immigrations sector.
- Between c and d gates there’s a set of food kiosks and restaurants if you hate waiting in long Starbucks lines.
- Harald B.August 16, 2014In case you are in transit and happen to be in concourse C/D you obtain a boarding pass at the UA desk at D20
- Tolga OksayFebruary 18, 2014Waited for 5 and a half hours caused by delay to Newark. Great airport! Going each gate is really easy! And the safety is also great!
- Always helpful, but super expensive places to eat as expected. Only experience is with international flights
- My family lovingly deemed the A concourse "A-gate hell". Always something going wrong here...
- Low JamesJanuary 13, 2012Five Guys has the best cheeseburgers. There's two locations: one in Terminal A and one in Terminal B. If you plan to have fries, you're better off with a single patty.
- DC Social Sports ClubMarch 3, 2012Good riddance to the monster trucks but it's still a hike between the check-in counter and your gate. Dress lightly and prepare for a workout.
- Security is super anal depending on who you get. Make sure all gels and liquids are in FAA approved baggies in your carry on luggage
- William GunnFebruary 3, 2016Distance from the curb to C6, 1.1 miles, 30 minutes with no security wait. When they shut down Precheck, they force you through the regular screening.
- Umman KhawajaAugust 4, 2014Words every language understands: taxi, okay, sex, pizza. I will come up with more.
- Those mobile homes on wheels that are driving around the airport are known as plane mates or mobile lounges. To me, they're known as a pain in the ass.
- Deyla Roisah FadhilahNovember 6, 2012Arrived safely at 10 am, 29th Sept 2012 after 24 hours flight =) No need to worry about transport from airport to other places as there were many public transport waiting outside.
- Brenda TassavaAugust 27, 2011B Gate concourse is excellent! Wander down near gate B73 for a great food court selection.
- Melissa AugustineSeptember 14, 2010If you have a long layover go to the air and space museum. 12 minute shuttle ride from airport 1 USD round trip and soooo much more interesting than staring at a billboard
- Nothing takes the edge off an early morning flight like the walk of shame breakfast burrito at DC-3 (B gates)
- By far the least efficient and worst airport in the National Capital Region. Use BWI or Reagan if feasible. Otherwise, plan on long security lines at any time of day on any day of the week.
- Aaron DancygierMay 1, 2014If you need to get to Arlington take the metro 5a it's a six dollar ride that will save you 50.
- Dave CutlipNovember 27, 2017It’s an airport as long as you have all your things together it’s not an issue!!
- Heads up.. IAD to JFK and back is $49 during the week on JetBlue. I'll be here a lot more often.
- Peter EegFebruary 14, 2014JetBlue continues to be the easiest way, and cheapest way, to get to Southern Calif. Early flights are nice.
- ChdhurryApril 29, 2014Only try to purchase duty free stuff from the terminal you're departing from. Also - five guys at terminal B and there are smoking lounges after security.
- Take the Washington Flyer shuttle ($5) to the Silver line metro (~$6) to get downtown.
- Shaun CassellsMay 3, 2013Hit and miss on the terminals. The international terminal is very nice. However most are small dingy and crowded. Pay close attention to the Train and bus routes.
- Melissa DoodyMay 12, 2012Of your flight is early and you have a hankering for an AMAZING breakfast sandwich, hit up Five Guys! YUM.
- This airport is huge so budget extra time. The upside is that you can go almost anywhere in the world from this hub.
- Harry LópezDecember 29, 2018Make sure to read the signs when you getting out, I ended in departures when I was arriving
- Almost forgot about the shuttles from the check in area to terminals. Add 15 minutes so you don't miss your flight!
- Terminal D still uses the Star Wars moonwalkers. As novel as they once were, making a flight at D is more difficult because of the moonwalkers.
- Frankly, the old people movers are faster to C gates than the new train. Take it if you can.
- needs a priority lane for passengers with connecting flights when entering here from an international flight to make a connection within a couple of hours
