Steakhouse · Main Street District · 1530 Main St (btwn Akard St. & Ervay St.), Dallas, TX
Franz Strasser: Great place to eat if you have some money left in your travel budget. Sit at one of the bar tables to get around the even pricier dinner menu. The food and service are great regardless.
American Restaurant · Downtown Austin · 1409 Lavaca St (btw West 14th & 15th St.), Austin, TX
Franz Strasser: You probably want to stop here with a few colleagues if you had a long day and just want to grab some beer and eat some chili. Authentic Texas cuisine, and you feel like you're in the right spot.
Mexican Restaurant · University Place · 2536 Nottingham St (Kirby Drive), Houston, TX
Franz Strasser: If you're in the area, this is probably a good place to stop and get lunch. Very fast service, cheap food, but you know you feel good about not ending up at the Subway across the street.
Franz Strasser: If you need to stop for a layover, MSP is probably the best place in the North to do so. Very clean, new, and electric sockets under the bar table. Finally, an airport for the 21st century.
Seafood Restaurant · 12495 Padgett Switch Rd, Irvington, AL
Franz Strasser: Kendall runs this place which has been demolished and rebuilt after every major Hurricane. Come here for the real local flavor, of both food and people, and don't be afraid to order the fried onion.
Franz Strasser: The place is not easy to find, because the GPS will have a hard time finding the address. Still, if you come early (I think they close at 6pm) you will get treated to some great local ribs.
Event Space · Central West End · 4657 Maryland Ave (Euclid), St Louis, MO
Franz Strasser: If you're in town and you have a bit of time, go visit the Chess Club of Saint Louis. This is where the annual US Championship is held. The occasional Grand Master might want to play with you.
Franz Strasser: A local hangout for the oil workers on the nearby rigs. Nana Lil and her family own this place, and are quite busy with the nearby oil boom. Go for breakfast, and watch the oil ticker on CNBC.
American Restaurant · Downtown Boise City · 199 N 8th St (Idaho), Boise, ID
Franz Strasser: An old bank vault downstairs is not the only highlight of this place. The staff is very friendly, the food as good as you expect when you first walk into the very open, and pretty fancy restaurant.
Beer Garden · Downtown Greenville · 23 W Washington St, Greenville, SC
Franz Strasser: If you like Belgian beer you cam to the right place. Recently opened in the basement of a downtown building. Only one TV screen, so you really want to come here for the food and the beer.
American Restaurant · 1037 N Breazeale Ave, Mount Olive, NC
Franz Strasser: Started in 1991 just up the street in Goldsboro, this chain is now all over the Carolinas with hundreds of locations. Good chance you get to meet Andy's dad, the founder, sitting at one of the tables.
American Restaurant · 4350 Lassiter at North Hills Ave (at Six Forks Rd), Raleigh, NC
Franz Strasser: Try to sit in the biggest room so you can stare at the moose on the wall all night. Good food, great atmosphere and in the middle of what appears to be a high-end outdoor shopping mall.
Franz Strasser: Skip the hotel breakfast and come to this place but do arrive early if you want to avoid the weekend line out the door. Their bread is to die for and the crowd reminds you that Mt Whitney is nearby.
