- Stewart RoxburghJuly 16, 2015Wow! The fried chicken breast was amazing. Probably the best I've ever eaten and I've eaten a lot! Fresh, vintage, down home Cookin' at its best! I bought breast and wing Coop Meal with the Creme Soda
- TomAugust 25, 2015Southern fried chicken done right! I prefer their original with skin. It's nice and crispy yet juicy. Biscuits are must. Their pies are just as good as their chicken if not better.
- Winson WongFebruary 10, 2015Pie shake! Pie crust inside a shake. So delicious and yet disgusting at the same time. I had the double cherry one and it was very good. The fried chickens were also not bad.
- Harlem’s HungryAugust 11, 2015The chicken is awesome! Wasn't expecting it to be so flavorful and moist. I went for the Classic fried I'm a skin fan. Definitely will return. Staff can be a bit more inviting to first timers however
- Zaphiria ZallasFebruary 23, 2015The food here is too good to be true. Try their chicken tenders, Mac and cheese, banana pie, and fry mashed potatoes. It has real fries in it! How awesome is that!?! The entire staff is sweet
- Cory BronzeJuly 30, 2015Absolutely the best fried chicken (Mama Els) and grilled chicken sandwiches in NYC. The homemade pie cups are awesome too. And don't miss the Boylan fountain soda. Free refills!
- NVDKAugust 8, 2014Casual, tasty cafeteria style food in an ideal location. The chicken sandwiches are great. The seating on the lower level has a fun gameroom feel. Great place for lunch with friends.
- Arjumand BonhommeAugust 23, 2014The chicken is always really juicy and flavorful. I like the classic style better than Mama El's. Best "fast food" chicken joint I've been to, and they're consistent. Decent service.
- Rami MassoudMay 12, 2017The fried chicken is perfectly cooked and has some of the best breading I've ever had. Everything was delicious
- Tony XerriSeptember 24, 20183 people squad? Sounds like you got a Bucket situation. Go half and half, that way you get the best of both worlds. Do not neglect the hot sauce.
- Kayla KellerMarch 8, 2014Soooo delicious. Amazing Mac and cheese. As someone from Texas, I definitely approve. If only there was queso!! :)
- Better than pies 'n thighs. (#Ohnohedidnt) Get it to go and eat in Madison Square Park, or get it to stay and eat down in the "Rec Room" which has an arcade machine and foosball!
- Mat ThiesJanuary 15, 2014When they are fresh their tenders may very well be some of the best chicken tenders around. The key word being fresh. Also, don't pass on the pickles, perfect pairing.
- Branzino BandiniJune 13, 2012You’ll find a worthy a.m. offering in the Eggs Armadillo. This Texan Benedict twist features a poached egg quivering on a flaky buttermilk biscuit doused in rich sausage gravy. $5 per egg.
- JenKuduNovember 3, 2012Chickwich is as close to a chickfila sandwich you can find in NYC. Bourbon pecan and Texas millionaire pies are amazing! Very cute decor too ;)
- Scott EnnisMarch 6, 2014Get the $8.00 Chickwich! Its worth it. Only problem is you start craving Chick-fil-A afterwards. If you have ever been down south you know what I'm saying! :)
- GourmetLiveMarch 20, 2012Although some would argue that the only thing better than a warm slice of pie is a warm slice à la mode, New York City’s Hill Country Chicken takes it one step further with the Cowboy Pie Milkshake.
- Best fried chicken in the city me thinks. The bums are also nice and hassle you from the warmth of your chair. No need to battle the cold for panhandlers.
- Apparently they dropped the Solo Coop Combos AND the free mini pie after every three Foursquare checkins. While this doesn't change the fact that they make great food, I might be coming less often.
- Over priced but really good. get the tenders I think they're better than the actual fried chicken and with the honey mustard on them they're top notch. Get a black cherry soda to wash it down.
- Food NetworkAugust 8, 2011On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Scott Conant goes crazy for Mama Els' Fried Chicken at Hill Country Chicken, a fresh fried chicken joint frying up all-natural chicken. Find more tips at FN Local. Read more
- When it opened: decent. Now: absolutely incredible. The Southwestern Salad with fried chicken = 🙌. Cheesy mashed potatoes have some magic in them.
- Tiffany LangstonAugust 2, 2014Make sure to get a milkshake. They're made with Blue Bell Ice cream and are thick and delicious. Chicken is well-seasoned, but pricy.
- lily meyerMay 14, 20143 Georgians here agree--this classic TX style fried chicken is NOT like true southern fried chicken. The batter has a lot of sugar in it...sugar that would be put to better use in the ice-tea!
- Lauren FordNovember 8, 2017Just get the chicken dark, the cheesy mash potatoes thing and a boylan's fountain beverage. No need for any of the other extras.
- Adam DSeptember 7, 2016The classic fried chicken is great. The french fries in the mashed potatoes are a fun idea. The kale in the coleslaw is not.
- Tobias ReiperJanuary 18, 2016Truly delicious, soft, and moist fried chicken in New York!! Also, the pies by slice or cup rock!!
- Mike SmithJanuary 31, 2014This is what KFC should be life. Great meal. Get one strip of original recipe and one strip of mama el's so you taste both
- Laura D.September 17, 2012Great chicken, but let's be serious -- if you're coming here, it's to get a pie shake. That's right, a milkshake that has a mini pie blended into it. You're welcome.
- The Corcoran GroupOctober 29, 2010Pie Happy Hour (M-F, 4-6pm) get a complimentary cup of coffee with any slice of pie and get a second slice at half-price. The Fried Pimento Cheese Sandwich is best before desert.
- During the peak lunch hour, order by the piece to avoid the wait for a sandwich.
- Collette SJune 21, 2015Chicken tenders (get a side of honey) and cheese fried mashed potatoes is what you should get. No questions.
- Love the pie shakes, free refills on lemonade, free wifi, and the free pies after every third check-in! Oh and the chicken is pretty good, too!
- Samantha TanDecember 22, 2013Love the free mini pie for every 3rd check-in! Also got an extra free piece cos one was small.Check the receipt too, free breakfast offers!

- M SilbersteinJune 3, 2012Sort of like BBQ fried chix. Dark red -spicy outer layer. Lots of flavor/meat moistness. Not Southern traditional. Decent prices. Beer available. Lots of sit down space. (2 of 4 petals via Fondu) Read more
- m 11sApril 19, 2017The skinless oats crust has really good texture and crunch. They could have made the chicken itself and the crust more flavorful.
- The chickwich is absolutely incredible. Get it with some fries or the mac n cheese!
- The menu is totally overhauled and reorganized. Texas Tenders are HUGE! One or two with a side is really enough for a big snack.
- the classic chicken is delicious, almost a guilty pleasure, with biscuit, fries and mac&cheese
- Cristin RiffleFebruary 1, 2012Forget your diet and go all the way with the chicken and waffles. Don't skimp on the butter and syrup either! They compleat this heavenly eat.
- Cristina RMarch 7, 2014If I could marry their chicken and waffles, I would. Oh and the salted margarita pie is to die for.
- Try the chickwich. It is cooked to order and piping hot. And ask for really hot fries. Worth the wait. Wish they offered lemon meringue pie more often!
- Biscuit and gravy is a great way to start the morning! Lots of pepper and hunks of sausage.
- MicheleJuly 11, 2015Boylan's soda on tap! Get the chicken tenders - they're huge and friend with a yummy cracker batter.
