I get my chai and samosa fix here. Feels like home. I can hang out and talk with others like me who have come to this country to work hard and try to enjoy the experience at the same time.

This slim takeout spot caters to NYU students and Indian cab drivers. The all-vegetarian food is very cheap and satisfying (try the rajma), good for late night snacks in the East Village.

$3.50 gets you a bowl of rice with a huge pile of your choice of 2 vegetables: spinach, lentils, and more. Enough for a small meal but you can opt for a bigger bowl or throw in a $1.25 samosa.

So comforting to know that 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, someone is willing to hand you an awesome bowl of food for $3.50. The huge smiles are free. Reasonstolovenewyork.

All I know is that my friend from Bombay refuses to eat American-Indian take-out, loves the food at Punjabi. Also there might as well be a swinging door for the flow of cabbies in and out of here.

I wouldn't get any of the fried food (pakoras, samosas, etc) because they are not as good reheated. But rotis and rice with any vegetables are AMAZING and super cheap. Also highly recommend kulfi

Samosa chaat. Do it. Great vegetarian Punjabi food with no pretense: heated in the microwave and handed to you. Finish the meal with some chai
