As a local playful tradition, the track for your train is randomly changed about 2 mins before departure. So follow any giggling crowd that was waiting with you if they start running downstairs.
An impressive station with a wide range of shops and restaurants. The luggage store is a very clever system involving booths and conveyors. If you have time, there is a model railway in one passage.
It’s just a plain boring train station that is not ancient enough to be a beautiful architectural display and not modern enough to blow you away. There’s a Rewe City Express and food places at least.
If you have some time before your connecting train arrives, go and explore the cathedral. Entrance is free and it’s just outside the station. You can easily spend an hour there. :-)
The typical German central railway station: a LOT of food, a supermarket, some shopping, a pharmacy, bookstore, anything you may need. Oh, plus trains to eeeverywhere.
Plus: very central, right next to Kölner Dom. Minus: if you have to wait for your train (because it's late - again), not many places to sit, very hot in summer, Wifi not always working. Toilet paid...
Put 2.50 into the bag storage and watch the magic as it stores them somewhere for you. If you're longer than two hours you'll have to pay another 2.50, but your bags will still be safe.
❗️aware of the ticket machines; cause they may take your money, still say that you’re lack of some amount you’ve already paid and may not give your money back when you cancel your purchase❗️
Beware of thieves that work in groups here. On the platforms, they will spray paint on your bags/clothes and then offer tissues to help clean up. Then, another guy will walk away with your bags.
Be sure to never take your eyes off your bags, even if you think you're carrying them securely. Skilled thieves everywhere. I've had thousand dollars worth of camera equiptment stolen within seconds.
