- Fred SpofforthOctober 1, 2017Enormous and impressive building with a 73 ton bell. There is also access to the Kyoto trail up into the hills at the back of the complex. Opens at 7 and there are no tourists at that time.

- 龍March 17, 2016浄土宗の総本山であり山号は華頂山、正しくは華頂山知恩教院大谷寺。開創は承安5年 (1175年) 法然が結んだ吉水の庵室に始まり、入寂後の文暦元年 (1234年) 源智が諸堂を建立、知恩院大谷寺と号した。現在の堂宇は寛永10年 (1633年) の焼失後、徳川家光の再興による。国宝の三門や御影堂、法然上人絵伝、大・小方丈、勢至堂、大鐘楼など多数の文化財を所蔵。
