If you go in the late afternoon just before sunset you will finds lots of girls wearing traditional clothes. If you are polite probably they will love to smile for your picture.

Beautiful shrine lit up with a line of lanterns. Not as big as Kiyomizu-Dera temple, but has it’s charm. There are also hawkers at the entrance selling local delicacies!

Yasaka Shrine is a bustling, colorful and pleasant downtown shrine that lies at the heart of much of Kyoto's festive tradition, including the famous Gion Matsuri.

Large shrine complex, nice oasis in the middle of the city. Beautiful at night, but feels weirdly overdeveloped, almost more like an Epcot exhibit than a traditional Japanese shrine.

Easy to find location, as it’s a straight line from the Nishiki Market. Come hungry: when we were there, there were lots of street food vendors in the area.

Long connected with the Kyoto Geisha community centered in the nearby Gion District, Yasaka-jinja Shrine is a bustling, colorful and pleasant downtown shrine.

I recommend really to go up to the top! Just amazing way and less crapped than until the 1st panorama point! Amazing area!

The most beautiful shrine I ever seen. There are many scenery and gardens inside. You can walk, relax and have a snack.

Beautiful shrine right at the end of the major road in Gion. See the shrine then walk through the park or get some food in Gion.

Larger than my expectations. I'm lucky to meet a street vendor gathering at Saturday similar like the night market of Taiwan.

It's super busy. There are lots of food stalls around. Overall, the atmosphere was more like on a funfair which made me feel weird since I'd expected a shrine.

Party here for new year's eve or come at night for a quiet stroll. Geishas often seen nearby coming to or going from work.

Don't eat in the restaurants with tables under the trees. It's a tourist trap. They'll charge 800 yen per beer and 400 yen per bowl of rice. Fucking expensive ambiance

白河院は、寵愛する祇園女御の所に行く途中で、化け物と遭遇する。院のお供であった忠盛(清盛の父)は、それを灯籠に火をつけようとする老法師だと見破る。その灯籠がこれ。忠盛のその冷静さを称賛し、院は祇園女御を褒美として与えるが、この時、女御は既に院の子を身ごもっていたとも言われ、そのお腹の子が清盛だと『平家物語』は伝えている。

言わずと知れた京都で有名な神社の一つ。旧官幣大社で、通称は祇園さん。祭神は素戔嗚尊・奇稲田姫命・八柱御子神。創建は貞観年間 (859～877年) というが諸説ある。全国にある八坂神社の総本社であり、7月の祇園祭・元日の白朮祭は有名。旧称、祇園天神・祇園社・牛頭天王社。重要文化財は桜門や本殿など多数。
