The sheer size of the site is astonishing. A walking tour can give more details on the history and usage of the building, though I advice you to read the wikipedia article beforehand.

Maki ZAugust 16, 2015You have to do a guided tour. There is just so much to this place. We did the 3hr Dark Rome tour with the Palatine hill and it was great. Could definitely have spent lots more time though!

Sole AngelApril 19, 2019Must see, of course. Don’t be fooled by the excursion sellers, there is a ticket office (official) just 2 blocks from the colosseum. Bathrooms available and clean on the back (outside) for .50€.
