A legendary, historic & haunted hotel
I took a historic poop here. Here's Johnny!
COLORADO: 'The Shining' (1980); Film "takes place at the Overlook Hotel in the secluded Colorado mountains" … This is the hotel that inspired it all — author Stephen King stayed here in 1973.
Great old school lobby, bar with lots of whiskey choices and bartenders who know how to use it. Traffic is a mess with all the on-site construction.
Great hotel from the outside. From the inside probably a bit overrated and expensive.
Get the truffle fries in the bar.
Ghost tours! Beautiful historic hotel!
If you're vegetarian don't get the cheese plate! Great Sazerac!
Beautiful and historical! Take the ghost tour and learn about steven kings inspirations and all the stories!
The ghosts, of course.
Beautiful room in the lodge. Room service was delightful, the tour was fun, the bar has an extensive whiskey collection, the lunch wraps were delish. Highly recommended by me!
The whiskey selection is out of this world. But, the food is average and expensive.
Love just sitting in the lobby by the fireplaces. Great old historic hotel. A must for any trip to Estes Park.
not a single frame of film from"The Shining" was shot at the Stanley. The "Overlook"hotel is in Oregon. the"hedge"maze is in U.K and the long winding mtn.road as it begins is in "New Zealand". got it?
Channel 1-2 (SHINE) shows The Shining on a continuous loop in every room.
Cool place to visit
Very gimmicky and over-priced. Most of the employees are grouchy and unfriendly. Oh and paid $500 for an upgraded experience only to find out there's no breakfast for people staying in main building.
Stunningly gorgeous hotel and grounds. Stay, take a tour, and/or just come for dinner or drinks. This was a true highlight of Estes Park for us.
Im not sure if the bar had ghosts working there but they were definitely serving spirits
Try the Redrum Ale. It's to die for. Also, don't wear an orange tux to the party. It's been done.
Room 217 has a great collection of stephen king books in it. A lot of them have nice messages from fans who have donated them.
Take the hour and a half tour of the hotel and grounds. Beautiful Hotel with picturesque views.
urge to kill rising.....
Gorgeous lobby area. Worth a stop when in the area
Johnny cash was here that's all I have I say about that. And it's the inspiration for some movie that wasn't filmed here.
Really good breakfast and friendly staff!
Lovely old antiques grace the lobby but the best part is the stairscase in the lobby.
Take the haunted history tour.
Awesome service, great food in the restaurant and the greatest view in the Rockies!
Take the history tour! There's more to this place than meets the eye. For instance, you'll learn that it hasn't always been painted white!
Ask for Jimmy at the bar for some good insight and recommendations on Whiskey.
Fan of Stephen King? Stay at the uber-famous Stanley Hotel, where The Shining was filmed. Designed with vintage decor and rumored to be haunted. Come during Christmas where a fancy feast is served!
Redrum. Redrum. Just help yourself to the tour. Everyone does it.
Best view is in front of pool
go on the haunted tour you won't regret it!
Super cool for fans of "The Shining". Sit on the front porch and have a drink - best seat in the house!
This was the hotel from Dumb & Dumber... Not just "The Shining".
Redrum Redrum Redrum Redrum
They do haunted tours every night, to include a stop at room 217. If you're staying in room 217 you can have a LOT of fun with the tour groups when they gather outside the door ... >:)
Book this room as far in advance as possible. TOTALLY WORTH IT. It's a fantastic room with great history.
You should try the pulled pork sandwich!
When checkin' in ask/hope that you get a room that faces Estes Park. The rooms that face the back of the hotel have the worse views and can get a bit noisy from the outdoor bar!
Hit the bar and get the charcutery board.
Crazy haunted. You can sometimes see your own image suddenly appear against a wall. Oh wait, that's a mirror. Never mind. Still a cool old hotel.
Wow! It's a Stephen King movie, not Stanley Kubrick and none of "The Shining" was actually shot here. I'm floored that no one seems to know that!
The ghost tour is well worth it.
"We're getting set to shoot DUMB AND DUMBER 2 in September. It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back."
If you have a ghost in your room and you dont want to be bothered ask it to leave... in our case ask 4 different times nicely.
If you can get up to the 4th floor, try to find the ghostly perfume.
