Welcome to Strand Book Store, New York City's legendary home of 18 Miles of new, used and rare books. Since 1927.
In a corner of the Rare Book Room, you’ll find a little hallway of bibliographies and art books. The first few shelves have bargain leathers, where you can get a book older than our country for $6.
Nothing beats their selection of books, and you're always sure to discover an unexpected gem in those bookshelves. Make sure to check out the half-priced new books in the basement.
Thousands upon thousands of books in every genre and era you can think of. Ive found some really beautifully fabric bound books here as well hidden among the shelves. Its an amazing place to wander.
One of the best book stores ever! Great selection of Taschen books. Go upstairs and stare in awe at the rare book collection while huffing the wonderful old book smell. Lots of hard to find books too.
Best bookstore in Manhattan. If you want a lot of specific stuff, look the titles up on their site before to see if it's in stock & where it is. Otherwise just browse & enjoy hunting for treasure.
New releases, old books you won't find anywhere else at a good price. It's a calm and friendly environment and the staff is very helpful. If you love books this is the place to buy them.
The best bookstore in the city. 4 floors with tons and tons of books from best sellers to rare unknowns. Find some gems in the $1 section and carry them home in one of their famous tote bags.
As much as I value technology, I can't help but appreciate the feel of a book in my hand. I recommend that all book lovers take a break from the e-reader once in a while and revel in that experience.
I've been coming to this bookstore since I was a kid. I can still say this is the greatest bookstore to come to. It's an Icon for booklovers and even has the same smell of paper & ink. Stop by :)
best place to buy your moleskine notebook-- discounts on every model. strand is a gorgeous sight-- you will find mint, review copies of new and old hardcover books way under their cover price.
Don't be afraid to ask for help! With 18 miles of books, if you have a certain one in mind, it might take a while to find on your own. Plus, the staff is super friendly and helpful.
Strand feels more like a library than a bookstore. There are so many books here. And if you're looking for souvenirs, I would recommend the book tote bags. Tons of cool designs as well.
This is basically a day trip for anybody who loves books. There are so many genres available that I don't know where to start. It can get crowded during tourist season though.
It's the best book store I've ever visited. 3 levels of all sorts of literary treasures and rarities. There's other stuff, too, but you're guaranteed to find something new to read.
If the book you're looking for is featured on one of the front display tables, chances are there are cheaper copies of it on the shelf. Also- Look for Turkish banana taffy when checking out.
Absolutely love this place. Really cool space, good employee favorites displays and all around awesome bookstore. Go here get guys, don't go to Barnes and noble at union sq.
Truly the best bookstore I've ever encounter. Great price on books, lps and stationary. Warm and helpful staff and they buy used books too. I try to buy all my gifts here.
The book store with miles and miles of books is always filled with fun, friendly and interesting people. Head to the second floor's photography section and get lost in a good book.
We're from Portland, OR and it reminded me a lot of Powell's Books. Great place with clever, quality t-shirts, book bags, etc. Stellar selection of books. Highly recommended!
LOVE this place! You can find any book, the salespeople are helpful and nice and quick check out lines. Also they buy books back!! Explore the whole store. Also love the creaky floors.
A reader's dream. Tons of books and very inexpensive! You never know what you may find, but you likely won't leave empty handed. I even found a cheap copy of American Hardcore here.
In a hurry? Love books? Do yourself a favor, and don't even think about coming in! The scent of delicious books will seduce your literary senses! Don't say I didn't warn you!
Huge selection and super reasonable prices. Expect to pay maybe 10% more than Amazon. They also have a huge paperback selection where a B&N will try to push expensive hardcovers.
I would probably live in this place if it was allowable. I highly recommend checking out each floor, including the rare book room! Absolutely amazing place & fun for the entire family!
With 55,000 square feet of books, the over-80-year-old establishment houses thousands of discounted new and used titles, rare books, and hard-to-find art and photography books.
Miles of books, on every conceivable subject matter, stretching as far as the eye can see. Do take the time to go through the vintage stacks for buried literary treasures!
Give yourself plenty of time to wander around. You might find something you didn't know you wanted. Also the best place for affordable art, interior design and fashion books.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and super helpful. Don't forget to dig through the clearance racks outside as you're leaving! All Taschen books 10% off as of 10/13/12!
If you get the chance, go to the rare book floor and touch some old things. Bathroom on the 3rd floor is on my list of relatively clean public restrooms in New York City.
Libreria fornitissima, famosa anche per i suoi gadget sempre originali e creativi | A must-see for booklovers, the bookstore is famous also for its creative and original gadgets
You can find everything from a large selection of great $1 used books to the newest bestsellers. Pick up one of their popular canvas tote bags to carry all your finds home.

A gem of a bookstore, remnant of times past. No music is played overhead -- it is just you, and rows and rows and stacks and stacks of books. A magical place indeed!
I love it here it's a big bookstore and the prices for the books are really good as well this is one of my favorite spots I go to
This is my happy place. Browse the staff picks and the skillfully curated tables in front, but always check for a cheaper used edition in the back or downstairs!
This is Cults' favorite bookstore in the city! Guitarist Brian Oblivion says, "you can get every single book here" and singer Madeline Follin adds, "and it smells great!"
My favorite book store I always go here and what I love about it more is that the prices are really good and there's knew books and used books. I
You can spend hours in this store and not know it: If you enter when it's sunny, it's likely to be dark when you exit. It's walking distance to some great cafes around Union Square.
Decent math section downstairs, albeit relatively small given the store's size. Look here to round out your math bookshelf by scoring some great used finds for cheap.
Goodness, the sheer number of books inside is intoxicating. Go peer at rare books on the top floor; browse the endless shelves; pick up some bargains and pick up The Strand's memorabilia. Awesome.
Always check out the "Banned Books" table. You'll be amazed at what you learn and may even find some of your favorite books laying around! #IReadBannedBooks
