It's worth the wait for a bowl of the Taiwanese-style ramen that includes varieties like curry chicken and kimchi. Dumplings here are also well worth a try. [Eater 38 Member]
The food is hearty, fresh, and simple, with generous amounts of ramen. Choose from five types of ramen bowls as well as five dumpling flavors and a variety of Asian-style cocktails, beers, and sake. Read more
Excellent ramen. Not Ippudo (what is?), but tried all of them, except the vegetarian, and they were all delicious. This is the kimchi (it's got a kick) and the curry chicken was really tasty too.
Best ramen in the DC-area! Featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," this hole-in-the-wall spot is not to be missed! Toki can get busy, so make a reservation ahead of time. I recommend the Red Miso!
Taiwanese-Japanese fusion at its best, despite long wait. Start w/seafood dumplings; then get a ramen (spicykimchee is great); add sides of pork belly and srirocha sauce. Don't forget cold sake.
Pan seared dumplings are a good 'in-between' choice if you don't want to go with the deep fried, or steamed options. If you like your ramen with some kick, be sure to get a side of endorphin sauce.
"Sometimes you just have to have ramen, and while DC has a lot of nice ramen shops, I just can’t get by the broth at Toki. It’s perfect." Chef Frederik De Pue Read more
Food is half the fun here. The chef designed his stool-only, wood-ribbed space to suggest an Old World noodle shop, and the bartenders are just as deft as the chefs hovering over the steaming pots. Read more
The vegetarianramen is so hearty, even carnivores wouldn't miss the meat! End your meal with the salty-sweet fresh baked cookies with miso, and don't forget to buy a round for the kitchen.
Red miso and their steamed fried chicken buns are amazing. My friend got a cocktail (alt-f5) which was also delicious. Make a reservation...much easier than waiting an hour in line!
Kimchi ramen, red miso ramen, choc. Chipcookies. Right near the popeyes. Hard to find so look for a door with a symbol and the words "Toki Underground" then go in and up the steps
EXCELLENT ramen! Split a bowl of the Toki Classic & veggie dumplings w/ a friend. TOTALLY worth the wait! Put your name on the list and explore H Street (eg-Atlas Arcade or Playhouse) while you wait.
Tourist Tip: Love the Classic and the Kimchi. The egg is always perfectly creamy dreamy. Extra Noodle. Chicken Butt or Pork Cheek add on. Seriously. buttcheek FTW.
The best Ramen ever. EVER. Try the pork bellies. Also very tiny. Wait times upwards of an hour or two. Be prepared to have a drink downstairs at the Pug. They call/text when your table is ready
Worth the wait! I like to order the tsukeman off the daily specials and load it up with add ons - especially the pork cheeks, sriaracha and egg! (And my favorite seat is in front of the chef, natch!)
Classic ramen was de-lish. Ordered extra noodles and shared that way we could try a few appies. Cookies are served warm with milk and a great way to end the meal.
try the red misochocolate chip cookies with milk for dessert -- after you get a tasty bowl of ramen with pork lion add-on. make sure to try a Taiwanese soft drink (sidra, calpico, etc.)
Toki Underground takes you out of your comfort zone and serves up innovative ramen with two of its most popular being their Taipei curry style and a kimchi style. Read more
Great food, but overall i didnt enjoy the experience. I had veggie dumplings & veggieramen. Njam! This is not the place to eat out with friends, Music in this pub is loud, impossible to talk. Sad.
Holy shit. Everything is so good – the ramen, the house made cocktails. Be sure to try the pork, and if you like it spicy the fire sauce is amazeballs.
get here at 500 to get a seat or put your name on the list. orherwise you may wait for 2+ hours and you'll have to clear your schedule in order to enjoy these delicious noodles!
There is ALWAYS a wait here but you can have a drink at The Pug while you wait. They share a license so you can bring your drinks upstairs. Get the Hakata Classic (kae dama!) and pan fried dumplings.
Outstanding ramen...I went with the Toki Classic and was very pleased. Friend got the vegetarian - cool earthy broth with lots of veg - but then added pork cheek...pretty awesome
Very tiny, so be prepared for a long wait. Grab a drink at Copycat Co while you wait. Toki's kimchi ramen is one of my top ten favorite dishes. Anywhere. Ever.
Best ramen I've ever had. Been here 3 times and each visit was great. Always a long wait, but you can leave and explore H St. and they will text you when your table is ready.
I've had the fried prawn heads and "chicken butts" as add-ons, both were AMAZING. Good rule of thumb with Toki: If it sounds like you won't like it, you'll LOVE it!
Fun and friendly atmosphere...the ramen is soooo good! As a 1st time customer, I'd recommend T.U. to anyone looking for a great meal at an affordable price.
Delicious ramen and a cool vibe, but be aware that it's very small, pretty noisy and you'll be seated bar style, side-by-side. Just be prepared for that scene.
Ordered kimchi, red miso and pork dumplings and each was delicious. Pickles are nothing special and fades when you are served the best ramen in the city!
Cool atmosphere 😎 feels exclusive in its limited space and long wait. But there's better ramen out there if you're looking for authenticity instead of different flavor "infusions" to the same broth.
Two people can make a meal from one big bowl of ramen (all five varieties are $10 each) and an order of dumplings (six for $5), which means a Cheap Eats budget can include cocktails.
Everyone here is nice and the atmosphere is casual. Really awesome decor, check out the cool figurine collection. Keep an eye on the specials - they're amazing.
