The family move: Get here before LACMA opens (plenty of street parking), run around the grounds, tumble down the hill, bring bikes + a picnic, then hit the museum before naptime. Solid LA day.

Be sure to check out the musician that performs in front of the tar pit museum. He plays guitar, banjo, harmonica and a few other instruments. Nice old guy with great skills.
The museum is good but you can see plenty around the park for free. If you’re lucky you might be able to tag along with one of the tours. They’re very informative
These tar pits hold the fossils of Ice Age animals that became trapped in the asphalt deposits here. The fossils were first described by Wellesley College professor William Denton in 1875.

Very moving museum. Gives a very early history of the Nazi party and follows through the end of the Second World War. So many first hand accounts and stories of survival.
Amazing, always changing exhibits; staffers tell me best day to visit is Tuesday.
At the LACMA Café, I absent-mindedly rearranged the ingredients of my fruit salad into a smiling face. I returned from the restroom to discover my creation had been awarded Best in Show.

Fantastic exhibition, a little pricey at $25 but there is a feast of visual inspiration from Del Toro's films, classic Disney movies and illustrators/comic artists. A must-see for any film/horror buff

Not that well curated, seems like a mix of del Toro's and LACMA'S collections without a lot of explanation as to why each piece was chosen (beyond the theme of each gallery).
As others said, it's a big rock. Go in afternoon when the shadows are long and it's otherworldly. You can access the rock for free through the park.

Take a picture of you in front of it with your hands up. It looks like you're holding it up!! Classic gag. So original. People will think you're crazy strong til you fill them in on the joke. Classic!
Very relaxing way to spending a Saturday evening. The music is always top notch. The crowd is super chill. Bring a picnic blanket and/or lawn chairs and enjoy!

The landmark Variety Building skyscraper is the visible-from-afar center of it all.
The large park which makes up most of Museum Row that isn't a building or museum is called Hancock Park, not to be confused with a neighborhood of Los Angeles called Hancock Park further East.
Iconic Landmarks Outside the Museums Include: "Levitated Mass," the street light installation, the largest section of the Berlin Wall outside of Berlin, and the Rodin Sculpture Garden among others.
