I highly recommend "pupusas con loroco y queso" (pupusas with loroco flower and cheese). Don't be afraid; loroco "flower" is just a kind of green veggie--they pick the blossoms before they bloom.
The Salvadorean papusas at the bare bones 16th Street location are the best in the Mission. A papusa is a thick corn tortilla stuffed with pork, cheese or beans, sounds great to us.

People are right, when they say the food here is not great, the food reminds of cafeteria food, perhaps a bigger portion and maybe cleaner but, no doubt terrible quality for a high price

Pork pupusa is amazing. Salsa and curtido (coleslaw) are great too -- flavorful, a little vinegary, not too salty.

Lunch under $10. I really enjoy these empanadas- try the spinach or the mushroom. The sauces are super yummy. I’ve been coming here for years and I’m never disappointed. Simple and delightful.

The vegie trio (empanada, panuchos and salbutes) was eclectic, delicious and filing for the awesome price of $9. The complimentary chips (on the crunchier side) and salsas were also solid.
just go for the mayan platter and don't be shy with the citric habanero salsa.. tortillas are handmade and crispy, delicious mayan cuisine.
