Great place to lounge on the grass, soak up some sun, and people watch! Nice view of the Belvedere Castle, too. Just watch out for any incoming baseballs, footballs, and frisbees.
June-Watch baby snapping turtles (& mamas) swimming about searching for food. & Around noon, sunning on the rock outcropping along the northern end of the pond. But don't touch, they bite pretty hard.
Look for the enormous alligator snapping turtle in the pond. You'll know it when you see it.

Baby ducks in the koi pond are a must see in spring!
Wide lawns and trees dotting the periphery, sitting on a corner of land with the river on two sides, make this park a special place. The community gardens in the northeast corner are very nice too.

So much to do here. Swimming, ice skating, plethora of playgrounds, North Woods, fishing, conquering Harlem Hill, etc. Definitely my favorite part of Central Park.
