Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park opened in 1978 as Downtown Waterfront Park. It was renamed after Tom McCall in 1984 for halting and removing Harbor Drive and creating a waterfront urban greenway.
I mostly love jogging the SW waterfront loop because I don't have to worry about cars and I enjoy the river even if it is dirty.
Great running/biking route taking you right along the waterfront; you can continue further south along the spring water corridor route as well. Beautiful!
Beautiful water feature. A lovely place to sit and have lunch or to do leaf-boat races.
Downtown's only real waterfront hotel, with rave-worthy views from the restaurant and the bar's patio.
Great location. Directly on the waterfront trail. Hotel has complimentary bikes and passes to health club. Very close to streetcar. They are renovating the courtyard. Looks very pleasant now.
Great place to come grab a drink at the bar and sit on one of the rocking chairs looking over the Willamette and waterfront park.

Great park, but the world's TINIEST park, and the LARGEST leprechaun colony outside of Ireland, is conveniently located in the cross-walk out of the park as well :)

Beware of the sprinklers if sitting on the park benches. If they go on you will get soaked.
They have 45 beers on tap and 3 kombuchas. The beers range from IPAs, to reds, to ciders and I believe I saw some darker beers. Right in the SW Waterfront area. I'm definitely coming back!
Over 40 beers on tap here, friendly staff, and big screen television for you sports fans. Nice addition to the south waterfront area.
They now serve wine. Important for my better half.

The hotel wifi is pretty terrible, but the bike rentals are free for guests. Rent a bike (don't forget your helmet) and ride to the waterfront, then head south to the Portland Aerial Tram!
Nice without a lot of amenities. Plain rooms. Excellent staff, awesome toiletries. Stump town and a great restaurant in the lobby are a plus. Location extremely convenient.
Remember when you were 20 and lived in a crappy studio? This is just like that.
Waterfront Pearl is soooo excited for The Fields to open!
Head over to the north side of the park and grab a seat to watch all of the dogs in the dog park. It's also just a great spot to people-watch.

Awesome view! It was a little out of my way, but I'm glad I made the trip. It can get a little bouncy, but that's all part of the fun.
