A hidden gem. Very gorgeous with a cool modern art section.
Less crowded of Smithsonians, but loaded with great American artists and sculptors. From 1600s to present day. Includes modern works of pop culture art that are eclectic. Great museum!
In my opinion, best museum in DC. They have an excellent collection of both well known and unheard of contemporary artists and the architecture of the building really adds to the overall experience.

Of all the exhibits, don't leave without checking out the East Building, which houses the modern collection. Great art around every corner. And the architecture itself is worth multiple Instagrams.

Museum is divided in half - one half is the National Portrait Gallery, the other half is the Museum of American Art, which is outstanding. Check out the folk art on the bottom level.

The Smithsonian's American Craft museum and gallery is one of DC's hidden gems. Make sure to check out the contemporary glass art upstairs.

Very cool art museum with lots of rotating and permanent exhibits. Good but overpriced food in the café.
The "Dying Gaul" as well as the Art of Byzantium exhibits are great. Being able to compare Italian and French art alone is totally worth the visit. Plus there are cool ties for sale in their store.

Located near Dupont Circle in a neighborhood, this modern art museum is an oasis away from the crowds on the Mall. You can enjoy the fine selection of art without feeling rushed.
This is a stunning and infatuating collection of art. The cafe is also quite good.
Another great art museum not often frequented by tourists. A small but intriguing collection of African art and a nice gift shop as well.

Rude staff. Talked about having affairs in their marriages and were loud. Seemed we were more of an intrusion than customers. Sad because the art really is amazing and should be observed respectfully
