very nice place to take walks with dates, family, friends,pets. beside the structure u can get a view of different trails on each end leading to pavilions and valleys :) lovely view!
Leave your obnoxious kids at home so that other people can enjoy the tranquil setting.
Bring your children, if only to bother the curmudgeon who wrote the other tip. Plenty of running space for everyone!
The statues were cast in bronze in Florence in 1950, and were a gift from the people of Italy!

Memorial to Commodore Jones, naval hero of the Revolutionary War. It was dedicated in 1912 as the first monument in Potomac Park. Work of architect Thomas Hastings and sculptor Charles Henry Niehaus.
They should sell John Paul Jones hats in the gift shop. I'd buy one!

The bells ring every quarter-hour, although the best time to visit is undoubtedly the Fourth of July, when the bells ring to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner at 2PM.
The bells are automatically operated to strike the hour and sound on the quarter hour; they can also be played manually, as they are annually on July 4th at 2 p.m. Read more.

John A Rawlins served as staff officer under Grant through the entire Civil War (1861-1865) and as Secretary of War when Grant became President. Buried in Arlington, he died of tuberculosis in 1869.
A wonderful place, but you must visit in prime time not at night.
