arrive early (before 10am) to avoid the tour groups. walk further in after the first temple. the bamboo groves are denser and lesser rubbish from inconsiderate tourists.

Kinda overrated since the bamboo forest is not that big and you have to walk through it on a paved road. Avoid the big crowds by not going there on saturdays.

I wish I'd checked the reviews before I went on a Saturday. So many people! Follow the signs from the station or the crowd. Don't believe peopleless pictures in your guide. It's basically a queue.

Beautiful bamboo forest in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto. The entire area is beautiful and worth a visit. Take the JR to Saga-Arashiyama Station, then walk a short 5-10 minutes over.

Huge bamboos, nice small trail, albeit so crowded during high season it loses in both interest and quiet.

The best time to come is the morning on a sunny day. Grove looks gloomy at cloudy weather and usually overcrowded by tourists during the daytime.

Make sure you bring a flashlight & a map if you prefer to roam a bigger part if the Bamboo Grove. 🔦 Talk with your tour group on where to meet after since there are several entry points.
