Two counters at this enormous, crowded market stand out above the rest: Sushi-Dai and Daiwa Sushi. This is the freshest sushi you will ever try, and the immense variety will impress you too.

you only get once chance to see the tuna catches early in the morning (and to get kicked out promptly by security), but it's an experience you just have to add to your life to-do list

Waking up early is worth it for this wholesale fish market. Have a sushi breakfast, or if you’re not buying anything, just watch the activities unfold. Take the Hibiya Line, then Exit 1 in Tsukiji.

Go at the crack of dawn (like a bit before 5.30am) any day for the tuna auction, get a bowl of tuna sashimi at a stall, and then go take a nap at the hamarikyu botanical gardens nearby.

Tsukiji is a MUST. Top five places I visited in Asia. Sushi for breakfast at dawn, watch the auction and your jaw drop because you will be consuming the freshest fish you've ever had in your life.

Only the first 120 people are allowed to see the tuna auction each morning. Head to the Fish Information Center at the Kachidoki Bridge BEFORE 4am to get a spot, else you'll be crying.

The craziest Japanese experience I've ever encountered. They do not give two sh!ts about you here, in a good way of course. Watch out for moving carts and explore various species of fresh fish!

Locals form long lines to sample market-fresh fish at Sushi Dai, but there are plenty of other options. Enjoy sashimi at Nakaya, oyako donburi at Torito, or croissants at Orimine Bakers.

Either come early for the Tuna auction or at 9am to see the fish wholesale area (closed for visitors before 9). A few small restaurants outside, not worth. Line for Daiwa rest is huge, I did not try.

Ate at Daiwa Sushi, you should too. Best sushi I've ever had. The restaurant is a sushi bar with maybe ten seats. The sushi chef reaches over the bar to put fresh sushi on your plate. Worth the wait.
