Best seat in the house: along the railing in the balcony towards the center. Best place to eat nearby: Ben's Chili Bowl (try the 1/2 smoke all the way w/ cheese fries to share). - Richard On of O.A.R.

One of the best and most intimate venues for seeing live music in town. For thirty years and counting – the 9:30 Club has brought the best local, indie and international bands to DC. Read more

Great energy! This is the view from the bar at the back. There are some seats on the balcony (get here about half an hour early for that) but it is more fun to be part of the crowd by the stage

One of the best places in DC for a concert. If you're taking the Metro there, check the Metro closing hours before you leave home to ensure you don't miss the last train home after the show.

Independent local venue brings in top acts. Decent views all around, but best views go fast. Don't worry about food if you're in a rush: they have great food at good prices. This is why I moved to DC.

Has some of the best live acts, from the Pietasters to Public Enemy. The balcony has some of the best views and the only places to sit, but you have arrive early for them.

Best spot ever. Reasonable beer prices, and right next to the Civil War Memorial metro. There's a little Ethiopian Restaurant across the street with great food and beer specials. Highly recommend.

Just saw the Bosstones show here last night and was very impressed with the place. The view from the balcony was top notch, one of the best music venues I've ever been to!

This is an excellent live music venue. Every seat is a good seat! There's also a small bar in the basement (where it's rumored that some performers hang out after their shows!).

If you wanna have a drink before the show or escape the crowd, sneak down to the back bar (down the stairs before you get to the bathrooms.) It's like a secret bar - never packed, cool space.

Great sound for a smaller club, great view of the bands. Nice options for food, but real bizarre to leave your credit card to open a tab at the bar. Nice beer selection, don't go for budweiser.

Awesome venue. Overall best music going experience I have ever had in terms of getting drinks, food, merch, coat check, and music was LOUD but good sound.

Go to a show with a good opener, and get there in time to hold down the bar stools on the balcony above the VIP area and within arm's reach of the bar. Ideal seated viewing spot.

Awesome! My only complaint is that I went there for a show on a Sunday morning so I opted for a coke instead of a beer. It was four bucks! Solution: get a beer. Problem solved.

Get there a little early and settle in. My favorite spot is on the floor toward the back because it sounds the best. Just grab a beer, a cupcake, and enjoy! – Civil Twilight

If you arrive early you can walk around to the side and there is a set of stairs that leads down to 9:30's basement bar with easy access to the main stage room.

The club where I spent my youth and got to experience live music the way it should be. Continues to be the standard bearer for mid-size venues on the East Coast.

Bring a couple dollar bills if you plan on sitting in line outside during summer shows. There is a nice guy who will stroll down the sidewalk with a cart filled with bottles of water for a buck.

Founded by Dody DiSanto and Jon Bowers, the 9:30 Club was the home for alternative music in D.C. during the early 1980s and was a regular stopping point for bands touring the east coast.

Quite possibly the best venue in the world, go see a show here on a Sunday night. Sometimes the bands are amazing and the crowd isn't overwhelming.

Had a great time here. The parking lot behind the venue is great but small. And it is a little expensive for the parking itself. I wish it was included in the cost of the ticket...

Bob Dylan has played three shows here, two in 1997 and one in 2004. Other greats to have graced the stage include Radiohead, the Beastie Boys, Adele, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Make sure to bring your earplugs if you're seeing anything but a very quiet band. The soundboard ops here, like at most small venues, believe that the only good volume setting is "all the way up".

NO PHOTO/NO VIDEO policy sure doesn't look strict to me...... 9:30 is lax on hacks but still hassles pros. As camera tech gets higher on smart phones the rules will inevitably have to change....

The 9:30 club isn't so named because it has anything to do with any time of the day, but because of its original location, 930 F St. NW, which is now an office building. Womp-womp.
