Started by Al and Genevieve Rusterholz in the late 1940's, their fabulous french fries quickly made Al's into a Burlington-area institution. Since opening, the building has had several additions—but the frys are still the same, and it's no exaggeration to say that they are known nationwide.

French fries are soft and somewhat greasy and salty, to die for. Large selection of other things as well.

Very disappointed. Ordered pizza burger, came with American cheese and no pizza sause. It was basically a cheese burger with a different meat patty. Dual line and small waiting area gets crowded.

Avoid Al's. People who think it's good are people who grew up with it, when choices were Bove's "Italian" spaghettios/Wonderbread on Tuesday and Al's floppy grease fries and 1/4 puck disks Fridays.

Fantastic chili dogs. I could eat a ton of 'em. Sadly, the fries aren't what they used to be. Still, Al's is a VT landmark and it's an excellent spot for eats on a summer day.
