Quiet car is back in Harrisburg!
Amtrak employees are only assholes if you act like one towards them first. Don't do that and have an enjoyable ride.
If you're heading to Philly in the AM, stop and talk to Jordan Roberts. He's delightful.
The Keystone is always my choice over driving to Philly.
A beautiful historic railroad station in the heart of a capital city.
This place is great. Friendly staff, clean facilities, positive law enforcement efforts. No vagrants, gypsies, or streakers.
Train rides can make you sleepy! Make sure to keep wallets and purses covered and inaccessible while you take a nap.
For a laugh, read Jack Kerouac's thoughts on Harrisburg, and the train station in particular. He spent a few nights there during his travels
Great snack bar, though not open 24 hrs. Friendly folks and good selection of food, reading material & other travel goods.
Bring food, none at the station
Avoid using the bathroom at ALL COSTS!
Buy tickets ahead of time. If ticket windows are open and you choose to buy your ticket on the train, they charge you more (depends on where you're headed). I paid $9 extra.
Ask the engineer if you can blow the whistle
If you have time, the newsstand has interesting local sandwiches and candies.
Use the Quick Tic machines! Much easier and usually no lines!
They need a Starbucks but this place is what an original train station is.
They have great Amtrak hats hanging above counter in the news stand.
Easy to get on and off. Building is old, but it has character.
Arrive a few minutes early to enjoy the train display in the waiting area. There is a convenience store with snacks and necessities of sorts, although the pickings are slim.
Don't bother ringing the bell at 4:45 pm as instructed cause ain't no one here.
No Café Car on Keystone trains to PHL, NYP. Plan ahead before you board.
The employees here are super.
They usually have only one ticket agent. Arrive early if you need a ticket!
Long lines to Pittsburgh
NYC train is always crowded. Get your ticket early and save money.
Check out the model train display in holiday mode
If your trains here for a bit, run across the street to Pints!
Beat the rush down the stairs by using the elevator.
The shop here has candy for as cheap as 10 cents
Tip your redcaps!
Stop by Spice Restaurant for lunch or dinner while you are in town or before you leave. Check in specials on Foursquare. Safe travels!
Harrisburg has an "I" in it.
