You could get a reservation for the ferry, but reservations only account for 90% of the vehicles. Show up early and get a spot without one.

Check out Wikipedia for the history behind the ferry you're on. My wife gets seasick very easily and she didn't get seasick on any of the ferries. Go to the top deck for fresh air and beautiful views.

If you are taking your car, make a reservation! Easy paid parking near terminal ($10 per 24 hours).

If you want a nice window seat inside get out of your car as soon as you park it on the ferry and head up to the seats. Otherwise you may have a poor choice of seats.

It's fun to walk up and down the rows of cars and try to guess what people are eating while sitting in their cars and how bad it must smell in there.

No beer, wine or spirits in the cafe. No guaranteed tickets. Arrive AT LEAST an hour early for any trip. Showed up an hour and 15 early today and it was still full. Bah.

Only one place to eat at the terminal and it's pretty bad :-( bring your own food or if you must buy something from the cafe, the hot dog is edible. Sat away from the sandwiches and salads.

Lame. We woke up at 5:30 (Redmond, WA) & still missed the 8:25 Sidney, BC Ferry due to their power outage and inefficient splitting of cargo car/passanger car traffic. $10 day parking, btw. Cards OK.
