Here for a few hours? Check out gate 1. It's downstairs at the east end of the terminal. It's quiet, full of seats, and has many outlets for you to recharge your devices!

Get there early or linger on the way in and grab a bite of local only food and music. The chair massages are incredible and some of the best Austin t shirts you will find. They make great gifts!

Salt Lick is by gate 12. If you need a quick fix, the Salt Lick Taco Bar is by gate 10...yes, there's a brisket taco & breakfast versions before 10:30am. Does the trick if you don't get to Driftwood.

Check out Salt Lick near gate 13 for breakfast and lunch. You can also pick up a smoked brisket and take it with you. It is frozen and packaged for travel. Was perdect for my sales meeting.

You won't find many chain restaurants in this joint. Leave room for a scoop or two of Amy's Ice Cream. Mexican Vanilla with any topping or crunch in is a winner

Welcome to Austin! My favorites here at the airport are the live music stages, Salt Lick BBQ, and Amy's Ice Cream. Look to grab a seat in one of the power arm chair stations at various gates.

Salt luck BBQ. Live music at Asleep at the Wheel bar and acoustic live music at other spots occasionally. Amy's Ice cream for big & little kids.. Easy in &out. Reasonable valet and family valet..

Annie's will sell you a side if scrambled eggs, seasoned with delicious butter. Get some free salsa from them and have a tasty, carbless breakfast in the land if carbs that is airport breakfast.

If you're flying SWA, AA, frontier or JetBlue your terminal won't have a Starbucks but it will have an awesome local coffee shop called Austin Java. Check it out! Maudie's is also amazing tex mex!

Welcome to Austin! They have done a decent job of implementing Austin's "weird" vibe into this airport. Some days you'll find live music right in the concourse. I've never seen that anywhere else!

Take the Airport Flyer (100) to downtown for $1.00 (free for UT student/faculty w/pass). Pick-up is on lower level next to taxis. It will drop you off at 4th and Trinity (Austin Convention Center).

If you plan to fly out of ABIA on a Monday, add an extra half hour to 45 minutes to your one-hour-prioir arrival at check-in/security. Full extra hour if you're checking bags. Mondays are quite busy!

If you're as anti-Pepsi as I am, you're probably craving a Coca-Cola right about now. Head to Amy's Ice Cream across from Gate 12. They even have free refills! Also, they have Diet Dr. Pepper!

Enjoy live music while eating some of the best BBQ from Salt Lick. If you have time, top it off with a delectable scoop from Amy's Ice Creams, renowned for their staff’s ice cream acrobatics. Read more

As an Austinite I love the city, but I wish this airport had more to offer. As a tourist city we should have a bigger airport with more diverse options and better facilities and parking lots.

Best kept secret in the airport : Waterloo Ice House breakfast tacos are amazing - and not just "for airport food" I'd put these up against any in town. Oh yeah - they're made fresh to order!

Take 100 airport express $1 to downtown. Eat at my fave rest that is free of sxsw crowd: boiling pot (hands + mallet + crabs) & lucky puccia (food cart w/ cold beers & best italian sandwiches)

If you're looking for "Chicago-Style" pizza, be sure to hit up Mangia Pizza by Gate 12. If you're looking for "Chicago-Style" popcorn, I suggest that you catch the next flight to Chicago O'Hare...

The security lane in the west side, serving the gates in the high teens to 20's, has a premium passenger lane for gold status and first class that has a metal detector instead of naked X-ray scanner.

There are no working outlets by any chairs once you leave the secure area. If your phone dies, plan on sitting on the ground by baggage claim charging your phone like some homeless, jetsetting vagrant

The security check is the most ridiculous that I have seen in the United States. The jokers wanted to scan my laptop again for heaven knows what! The line was 3 miles long and only 2 scanners!

Efficient and fast but lacks a unique character. But hey, as long as your flight is on time, all that extra pizzaz doesn't really matter. Includes a food court with decent food options.

FREE WiFi for 30 min: select Boing as the network, open your browser in any page and wait until the Boingo page show up. Last options is a free complimentary 30 min access. Enjoy!

If you’re unable to select the middle seat when booking your flight, do not book that flight. The flight is most likely oversold which could make for an unwanted adventure when take-off time comes.

Keep in mind that there are three security checkpoints. The two that you normally see, and one off to the far right. Use that one if you're leaving from a higher numbered gate.

The TSA security lines look like they're about an hour long wait (lines forming past the barricade ropes) on a Tuesday afternoon... so arrive early for your flights this holiday season

If you have a car2go membership, you can take the Parking Spot shuttle for free and pick up one of their car2go's to drive around Austin! Or drive one to the airport and leave it at the Parking Spot.

Regarding the local food options, its buyer beware. In some cases the only thing "local" is the name licensed from the local business, the food quality is not necessarily the same as you might expect

Make sure you bring your own bag or have room in your carry in if you plan on buying anything in this stupid airport. It costs you 11 cents I you want a bag even if you are buying a present. Crap!!!!!

No matter what airline your fly, make sure you're at the gate 45 minutes to an hour prior to departure. Doors close 10 minutes prior to departure. Airplanes don't wait for you, YOU wait for airplanes.

No free public wifi internet. Be careful about renting a car here it's one of those that has "consolidated facility fee". Get a SuperShuttle or bus to town and then rent at a city location.

Long flight home? Your best bet is The Salt Lick near gate 13 - not my favorite sauce but as good as airport food gets outside of Jet Blue's T5 in NYC. SXSW rules!

ABI's eco cred runs deep: the airport was converted from a former Air Force base, has solar panels that also provide shade for taxis & has reduced energy consumption to 2.5 kWh per passenger

Finally! Austin has Pre at security. If you qualify, keep your shoes and belt on, leave everything inside your luggage--computers, too--and walk through the metal detector. Just like the old days.

Heading downtown and not renting a car? Skip the cab and pick-up the CapMetro bus for $1 to the right of the cab line. Takes about as long and is much cheaper than taxis or shuttles.

Southwest's self-serve e-ticket booth is to the right, if there are lines. Very fast if your 100% carry on ready and only need your boarding pass.
