Balboa Park: the nation's largest urban cultural park. Home to 15 major museums, renowned performing arts venues, beautiful gardens and the San Diego Zoo, the Park has an ever-changing calendar of museum exhibitions, plays, musicals, concerts, and classes.
Placed in reserve in 1835, this is one of the oldest sites in the U.S. dedicated to public recreational usage. It is named after the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa.

Walking through Balboa park is a must in San Diego
Came into it's own as the location of the 1915 Panama–California Exposition, which created the architectural landmarks for the park. It is home to over a dozen museums and the World Famous SD Zoo.

Every time I go here I find another treasure I didn't know about! If you are a dog owner/lover you need to check out the dog park and have a drink at the sculpture garden/cafe.

It is completely legal to drink on some of the lawns in the park. Be mindful of the signs.
You can always find something new; wonderful trails along the 163 freeway off of 6th avenue.
San Diego Museum of Art was great. Excellent 15-17th century European art.

The architecture in this park is amazing..love the splash of color inside the park (umbrellas) easy to run through and would love to check out the museums next time...great street performers too..

So many treasures to explore. The museums alone will take you days to get through. At sunset, the buildings glow for picture-perfect photo ops. You don't need to spend much to enjoy a day here.
Balboa Park is a special place to make memories. Christmas is spectacular. Never ending festivities & events plus miles to walk amid the museums, the biggest gum tree, the artists walk, fountain etc.
Great experience attending december nights , good food and ambiance.
Start with a coffee at "Daniel's coffee bean" at the Visitor Center plus a quick restroom visit, and you are good to go! Enjoy the exploring :)
Visit the back of the Museum of Art, the museum itself, Japanese friendship garden, stone bridge, and the main fountain :)
