This was fun, aim for around lunchtime as the crowd lightens. And try not to get stuck behind a group if you're on the more athletic side.

Ticket required to climb the lighthouse, but a very limited number of tickets are available each day. Plan to arrive at 9am. Also, there isn't anything else to see or do besides climb the lighthouse.

If there is a thunder storm coming don't go because they shut down the lighthouse until 30 minutes after the last thunder/lightning is seen or heard.

Pretty view from the boardwalk, but you need to make sure to get there early so there will be enough tickets for time slots for your whole group.

A nice, free tourist attraction. The parks service closed the lighthouse (inside only) on very hot summer days for safety.

Beautiful location and the lighthouse has been recently restored. I didn't come on a day that allowed for climbing to the top :/ There was a drinking fountain for filling bottles and pets!

Great place to take the kids for a quick educational and informational trip. I like going to Pea Island and then the lighthouse.

They run 45-min tours to the top of the lighthouse for $8 adults/$4 seniors. Completely worth it to spend 12 or so minutes at the top of the light.

Climbing requires being on a ranger guided tour, not come and go at will as at Hatteras light.

Call ahead to make reservations. Cannot access lighthouse without purchasing a ticket for the guided tour. You could walk on the boardwalk through the marsh for free. Limited parking.

Tours are $8/person and $4/child. Unfortunately, there's a height requirement and you can't carry a child up, even if they're strapped to you.
