Make sure you know what train you're getting on. Metro North and Amtrak trains look different!!! Metro north cars are all the same....Amtrak pulls in with an actual engine first THEN cars

Listen carefully to calls for trains. They often change tracks to opposite sight of where ticket office is located for trains expressoing to grand central.

7:11 am New York bound train - Sit in the first car and if your destination is only Stamford, you might ride for free. The conductor usually checks for tickets after the Stamford station.

Don't sit behind the dining car. It's loud, smelly, and crowded. The door is constantly being opened and closed too (loud & cold in winter). WiFi is slow but nice that its there at all

When collecting ticket from Amtrak kiosk, you don't need the original credit card the ticket was purchased with, just use any card, then enter your reservation code.

Even though the new trains have wide doors and two people can enter and exit at the same time, stiffen up your body while going in. You might wind up having a Leprechaun trying to walk through you.
