The British Museum began from the collection of naturalist Sir Hans Sloane which he left to the nation on his death in 1753. Now it houses 7 million objects including more than 100 Egyptian mummies.

There is a great room full of sarcophagi downstairs from the large Egyptian works.
Visit the Parthenon Marbles and imagine how these would look under the bright Athens sunlight. It's time for the British Museum to allow the Marbles to be re-united at New Acropolis Museum of Athens.
Good place to keep in mind if you're in Bloomsbury and need the toilet. Oh, it also has a few artefacts, we hear.
Try and find the skeleton of the mermaid, ha. It's in one of the galleries on the right side of the Great Court as you walk in ;)

With some of the best exhibit and artworks in the world, the British Museum is appealing visually and stimulating for the mind. Within the museum, the Egyptian room and Rosetta Stone are a must-see.
It would be a good idea to donate some money as entry to the museum is free.

Challenge by my 12-year-old to all others: try and find a statue of a man without something cut off. Hand, nose, arm, etc :-)

This 258 year old museum houses more than 7 million objects of history and culture. The Egyptian exhibit is very popular here.
Make sure you have a few spare hours if you plan on visiting the entire thing. Do not miss the mummies!
Brilliant museum and displays, but best of all is the new (ish) glass covered atrium with the old British Library Reading Room in the centre. Wonderful just to sit in.

Visit room 49, case 6, to see the ‘Fulham Sword’. Found next to Craven Cottage it dates back to 43 AD, is the best example of its kind in Britain & is the best named sword in the Museum (so we think)

Be sure to hit the Sainsbury Gallery with the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon. These architectural elements have been subject of a long battle between the UK and Greece.
Check out the ancient Egypt exhibit and see the Rosetta Stone.
The Chinese jade exhibit is great. Nice Guinness in the Museum Bar across the road.
Have lunch in the cheap and cheerful little Korean cafe (Bimbimbap) on Museum Street outside the main entrance.
