The British Museum was, by far, the best museum I ever stepped into. The permanent collection is filled with so many great artists and with so many pieces that one day wouldn't be enough to absorb it.

Great exhibitions (in two exhibition spaces), lovely smaller temporary exhibits, good lectures and family events, wonderful space in The Great Court, clear and well-designed signage, pleasant spaces.

In any legitimate list of worlds best museums this will be on the list towards the top. You can't miss it. Half the artifacts in any history book that still exist are here. Pretty amazing.

Do your research ahead of time to decide what's important to see. We saw the Pompeii Exhibit and thought it was extremely well done. Great lunch spots and it's worth the trip just to view the space.

Possibly the best collection of ancient history anywhere in the world. The British Museum is not nearly as expansive as the Louvre but its focus is much more on anthropological heritage than cultural.

One of the biggest museums in the world. It reflects the domination of UK all over the world throughout recent history. Different pieces from all over the world. Definitely it is worth to be seen

My new favorite place. Pillaging aside, the Hutton Soo and Egyptian exhibits are a must see (um, Rosetta Stone anyone?). As is the legendary Crystal Skull, which is on display despite being a fake!

The definitive museum in London for ancient artefacts. Everything is beautifully presented, and the main atrium area as you enter is very imposing. Look out for the special exhibitions!

Visit room 49, case 6, to see the ‘Fulham Sword’. Found next to Craven Cottage it dates back to 43 AD, is the best example of its kind in Britain & is the best named sword in the Museum (so we think)

The Egyptian rooms often get extremely crowded, but the Middle Eastern pieces on the lower floors are really amazing. The Assyrian works are globally unique, and the China India wing is worth a visit

Some amazing items (Rosetta Stone, Cleopatra's mummy), but also a strange museum because the collections old, so it's mostly the flashy items with not as much history and connection between the items.

One of my faves, the British Museum is the world's oldest museum, opened in 1753. There are countless items dating from prehistory exposed in its 94 galleries, belonging to worldwide civilizations.

As a long-time admirer of assyrian art (yes, there's a bunch of us left), I enjoyed. A LOT. Plus, there you get to see part of the hammurabi code, the oldest law code in history (1772 BC)

14 February: Seek out Aphrodite on St Valentine's Day. At the heart of the Ancient Greece & Rome section is a romantic version of Aphrodite, goddess of love, showing her crouching at her bath.

This world class is museum must be on top of your list if you ever visit London. The Egyptian mummies were the highlight for me. There's free wifi. The lines for the restrooms were quite long. Beware.

If there's a big crowd around the Rosetta Stone, try heading across the way to the Enlightenment gallery. There's a replica of the Stone in there, and - bonus! - this one you're allowed to touch.
