Parking is about $9/day. Near garage is the bus stop to bwi (free). Also don't park near taxi stand or else you will get yell at by bus/shuttle/taxi drivers
The station now sells snacks and magazines. If you have time to kill, you can take a stroll through the woods on the brown walkway behind the tracks.
Not reliable at all
If you're headed to Amtrak from the rental car area, don't take the bus. Instead, ask the rental car associates for a lift. They will drop you off and save you 30 minutes.
Recommend shuttle from BWI Airport to BWI RR station
Try to get info at the BWI help desk before you get here -- these guys are rather unfriendly to anyone unfamiliar with the process! :(
The ticket desk closes at 10:45pm sharp.
On cold/rainy days, wait in the overpass on the second level. Safe from the wind, close to the tracks, and a beautiful view.
Be careful of the bins in business class they have pointed corners and it stabbed my colleague in head. Dangerous and not universally designed. People must get hurt often.
Why is it that every passenger in the train station never knows what they are doing and always acts like it's their first time taking the train?
If you've got some time to kill before your train, take a stroll on the elevated nature walk behind track 3.
Back at bwi amtrak train is late I looked for an AA TAXI WORKS took the taxi to Greenbelt metro it's great to have a cab that takes credit cards
If the cabbies point to the first board and tell you the trains to DC are late, they are lying. The first board is Northbound and DC is southbound. Cabs here are rip offs. Avoid them completely.
If you're running late for a train, it's about 5 minutes from the Terminal C baggage claim once you're on the Amtrak/MARC Train shuttle bus.
Track 1 trains go to Baltimore and points north. Track 3 trains go to Washington, DC and points south. Track 2 trains don't stop here.
Watch out for the troll who lives under the bridge.
To get to DC from the station, cross the platform by going up the stairs or elevator, then back down on the other side.
"All Aboard" on the sign does not mean the train is here. You can easily visually see if it's here.
If you accidentally buy a MARC ticket they don't expire for a few months and they work in either direction.
Look at the monitor in the station to see whether the next train to DC is Amtrak or MARC. Buy the right ticket, as they are not transferable. MARC's cheaper ($6 v $12-21).
Watch out for loud, obnoxious, pushy cab drivers. Take the shuttle to the airport and grab a cab from there if you MUST get a taxi.
Aggressive cab ring leader, may even hint that that airport shuttle is broke down...
Watch out for the cab drivers here -- they'll try to hustle you to say the shuttle bus is late and you should pay for a cab to the main terminal
MARC info to go
Station serves its basic purpose of purchasing tickets & waiting on your Northbound or Southbound train plus bus service to light rail & BWI airport. Train is quickest option back to DC or Baltimore.
Take the ICC bus to/from this station if you live in Montgomery County. Only $5 and stops at Rt. 29/Burtonsville, Georgia Ave. at the ICC, Shady Grove Metro Station, and Gaithersburg Park and Ride.
It's not a long ride to the airport on the bus, but longer than you might think. Leave time both for the ride and for what can be a 20 minute wait.
If it's a holiday weekend and you're taking the shuttle, walk down the bus lane to Stop #1. Much easier to get a seat from there.
Hustle down to the free shuttle bus to the airport terminal. 15 min schedule to 1am 25 minutes after
Make sure to enroll in Amtrak Guest Rewards to earn points on all Amtrak trips you take from here. Use your earned points instead of $ when fares are abnormally high.
Don't arrive after 10:45. You can't even get in the station.
Love taking the train to Union Station. Beware of the cabbies who say they can take you. It's at least $100.
Watch out for the gaggle of nasty taxi cab carnie's trying to tell you that you missed your train and will drive to to DC...wtf
Best place to wait for your train is the passenger overcrossing.
How does a train station in the middle of nowhere still smell like bum piss
When it's this cold and it's not rush hour, no need to hit track 1 right when they say all aboard! Plenty of time!
The shuttle to the airport is across from the station between the two parking lot towers. The bus is red and generally ones every 10 mins.
Take the shuttle bus to the airport and to the light rail stop at the Airport.
Marc train is never on time. Either early or late, but most time Marc trains are late.
Don't pee on the third rail
They seem to be making new paths and doing construction around the main building. Hopefully, they are expanding and modernizing it. It's not 1980 anymore.
Taking the train into DC is so much easier than getting a cab.
The station attendant in the evening needs to lighten up and start treating people with some respect
Dirty/Small waiting room. You'd be best to show up just minutes before your train. Stay at airport longer if that's where you are coming from. Bus from Terminal to Amtrak station only 6-10 mins max.
If your destination is in Howard County, call ahead and get a cab to pick you up from there. It will be cheaper and a much better experience than the cabbies who wait here.
I work for BayRunner shuttle and pick people up from the Amtrak/Marc station daily. The employees working there are very nice and helpful!
Check out the new elevators!
This place is very early 80s. Station needs renovation.
When headed north into this station look out the window on the right side and you might see herons in the marsh
Do yourself a favor: stay on the train and get off somewhere else. Most dysfunctional train station I've ever seen. Also, if you parked here it will take you at least 20 minutes to leave.
