Unusually bad 3G/4G reception throughout the departure level. If you don't want to use the Qantas offering you'll be pretty stuck
What a small and cute airport.
For a Capital city airport this is sooo quiet and stress free. So although it's a pain not to have international flights it's nice to be so peaceful .
Well it's easy to get in and out of, so that's a distinct up-side.
Not an international airport and will not be for a long time to come.
Avoid flying Virgin, unnecessarily rude staff, high risk of flight delay or cancellation. Qantas the only option for Australian domestic flights.
Power points are located in the silver boxes under most white columns.
Kerbside Pick Up is not available at this airport. Use the green or red carpark pick up zones with 10 minutes free. Picking up on the single carriageway road just annoys other road users, don't do it!
You can watch bags moving through the belt system in the central atrium, just look for the glass sections of floor.
Colours explained: Red is for departures (upper level), yellow is for arrivals (lower level) and blue is just a random colour seemingly used at either end of the terminal near Gates 3 and 14.
Although the airport is designated by the Australian Government as an "Designated International Airport" there are no current scheduled international flights, only ad hoc and charter flights operate.
Until the airline's collapse in 2013, the airport was the main base for Brindabella Airlines.
Canberra International Airport is now known as Canberra Airport as there is currently no direct international flight out from this airport.
While this airport is a MASSIVE improvement on what is was, the best part about it is still that it's the gateway out of Canberra... Sorry Capital Territoreans...
Eat before you check in. Very few choices for food and they aren't great.
Don't arrive before 5am. Check in desks and departure/arrival hall doesn't open until 5am - so don't arrive too early.
There is no free wi-fi unless you are in an exclusive airport lounge. This is an outdated attitude for airline customers.
They have literally run out of taxis here. No Uber either. Ugh!
The taxi "commissionaires" are out of control! Don't discuss work in a cab 🚕 you'll be forced to share! @canberraairport
Powerpoints available next to travellex and vending machines. (near gate 8)
Red Shuttle bus to civic is quicker than a taxi
A newly renovated airport with potential. It may be small in terms of coffee shops and stores but it's big in scenery around the area. Take a moment to enjoy the view
Crazy color changing fountains in the drop off area are the second best part of the airport.
Avoid hudsons coffee. You have been warned!
Chairs near hudsons are too darn squeaky!
Nice e new airport design!! Top
If you just got off the plane in Canberra, and are lucky to only be transitting, the Virgin Lounge is to the right.
this place is hot in summer.
To all the people complaining about power - there is heaps of it! Check in the floor near the pillars along the gate lounges!
Tweet @FlightStatus with your flight number and get real-time Twitter flight updates. Remember to "like" this tip :)
Canberra airport bus was good ($10 each way & chatty driver). Lovely airport; not fussed that there are only a couple of eating and coffee options, I go there to catch planes.
Early morning flight, no fog? Well bring sunglasses because the sun will be IN YO FACE!
Where's the lounge???? All this space and nothing inside!!!
Limestone Bistro and Bar now open. Located after security, food offerings are quite nice. Standard airport prices though, so expect a hefty charge!
Travelex have two locations. Landside in the arrivals hall, central section. Airside, turn left after security and the box is now in the wall. Opens early but is not open late.
Fly #Virgin out of Canberra - your treated with much more style and consideration!
Come as late as possible for your flight, cause there are no lines and reception is dodgy.
You can get some beer and wine and great asian food at tuk chop
There are smaller airports in Australia, that still have more facilities and shops than here! Pick up your game, guys!!
No wifi which is bizarre and disappointing
If you came to the airport earlier, and fly local (e.g. to Sydney), ask if there is a earlier flight, they'll be happy to rebook.
They won't visually inspect film (unlike every other airport). Kind of annoying when I have some which is irreplaceable. Grrr
Most common questions answered: There is no tourist information office or even a brochure stand at the airport. Nearest service would be in the City or the main office on Northbourne Ave.
Most common questions answered: City buses leave from the lower level road way. Exit the terminal and keep walking straight, look for the red bollard or mini bus. Cost: $10. Runs until 6'ish mon-sun.
Most common questions answered: The Taxi rank is located to the right after exiting on the lower level, and is in the "covered" car park. Walk around the road until you see the giant "TAXI" sign.
Most common questions answered: Arrivals is on the lower level, everybody comes through where the yellow wall is. Departures is up the escalator behind the red wall (yes, check in is there also).
Signage is abysmal, you need signs to find the few signs located in the terminal. There are no maps, pictograms are small. Spent money on statues instead of signs, see staff if you are really lost.
Must visit: Australian War Memorial, its chock full of personal stories, displays, research facilities, a sculpture garden & function spaces. Its is one of the 'must- see' places in Canberra.
The perfect toilet experience for the germaphobe.
Remember to run for your bag on the carousel as if it were going into a place with fire and steel jaws, rather than it coming back out on the other side. It is the new "in thing".
