Nam Kaow (fried rice ball salad) and the Kaow soy noodle soup are my favorite here. Get the sampler if it's your first time. Delicious food but extremely slow service.

Really like the nam kaow (fried rice salad with lettuce cups). Very good food, off the beaten path Oakland.

This small restaurant has been luring diners with its interesting blend of Thai, Laotian, Lue and California cuisine. Try pungent dishes like fried rice ball salad w/ preserved pork or other specials. Read more

Chicken Larb was great; try the rice balls too.

A comfort spot for my girlfriend and I. Can't enjoy regular chicken soup after having tried their chicken soups and their curry dishes are a must-try.

    This place is laughably slow.

    Will Imholte · August 7, 2014

Hours on yelp and foursquare are NOT accurate. Drove all the way here expecting it to be open until 9pm (as it shows) but it is closed from 3:30-5pm. Pretty annoyed.

There's definitely a wait but it was worth it. staff was apologetic about the wait. They were fast upon taking orders and serving the food. Over all great place to dine. Nam Kao was really good!

They were great about making my food vegetarian (no fish sauce, no oyster sauce). Just ask!

Great Food! Crappy service. I've never been to a place where the wait staff acts like they are being troubled by working there. .....anyway great eats!

I think it was called lumpa or lulupula or something but it's salad and delicious.

    Mario Teigueros · May 27, 2012

Want to try the Lao style papaya salad despite the warning? Be prepared for authentic crazy fish paste. I'm sweating profusely from "medium" spiciness. Ask for iced water in advance.

My favorite is the Seafood Pho.

Red Curry is very Yummylicious! Not hot at all which is a plus for some people but not for me...I like it spicy...

  • Stephy Y. has gift certificates for this place but they apply the discount off the total after tax+tip so it's not as good of a deal. Food is decent for the price though.

Avoid the Lao style papaya salad!

    Carlisle Haworth · November 22, 2011

Consistently horrible service. Nice kids, but they do not know how to run a restaurant. You'll fight through it for the amazing food though.

    Jonno Norton · October 1, 2011

Everyone has slow service as a tip, I don't notice because the food is really great. I would recommend the mango beef, pineapple shrimp and the fried banana with coconut ice-cream.

Food is really great here, but wait can be really long and service sub-par. Take out is a good option is you're in a hurry.

    Michael Enslow · November 4, 2010
  • Shaolin B.

Always. The fried quail, the beef mus sa mun curry and the tilapia with cilantro sauce. Hell yes. Finish with fried banana or mango sticky rice for the win.

    Shaolin BBoy · May 15, 2010
  • Esther H.

Pineapple Fried Rice! Tom-Yum if you're feeling soupy Mango w/ sticky rice or Fried Banana w/ coconut ice cream for dessert!
