Delicious authentic Mexican. Brunch is an absurdly good value: $13 for a huge entree, juice / coffee / tea, and a pastry. Huevos ahogados is a platter of everything delicious, big enough for two.

$12 will get you your choice of brunch selection at this Mexican Crown Heights spot, a solid enough deal for many an alcohol-drenched mind. But the real hangover killer here are the chilaquiles. Read more

Food is always great but boy do they have a killer brunch. Try the Chavela's Omelette (avocado, bacon and cheese) w/ a side of chorizo hash. Bonus: they put cinnamon in their coffee so it's mad cozy.
    Alex Rainert · November 4, 2012

The half and half lunch special is surprisingly filling. The pescado torta is tasty (even without all the bread) and the Flor de Calabaza quesadilla is good with guacamole.
    Mbali · November 7, 2014

the huevos divorciados are the perfect brunch choice for when you just can't commit to one sauce... and the sangria is always delicious. Lots of vegetarian choices, too (for brunch, lunch, and dinner)

Delish! A cute little place tucked away in Crown Heights! Great margs and food@was great! Start off with guac and chips and end the night with their amazing fresh churros!!!

As mayor, I know all the tips: come at lunch, sit at the bar, eat mole. The special is only $6. Come back early on for happy hour and again, sit at the bar for $2 chicken mole tacos and $3 beer.

One of our favorite Mexican joints in Brooklyn. Come for brunch or for dinner, order the white sangria, guacamole, and any of the tacos (for dinner) or the breakfast enchiladas (for brunch).
    The Corcoran Group · November 6, 2013
  • Matt B.
Love the sangria, love the mole chicken enchiladas. I have yet to try much else because this combination is always perfect, but the family and friends I've brought here have never been disappointed.
    Matt B · December 25, 2014

Do: add smoked trout to the guac, come for the $2 taco happy hour or the amazing $6.95 lunch specials. Don't: underestimate how often you will eat here if you leave in the area/delivery range

I usually say, see for yourself. Screw that! you need to go, be impregnated by the most delicious food baby you can dream of, and let the night (or afternoon) slip away with a pitcher of margarita

Mexican corn here is tasty, thanks to the chipotle mayo. They serve cactus here, which is different & good. Quesadillas are small, but I liked the squash blossom. Shrimp ceviche is not worth ordering.

Saturdays around 4pm it gets very crowded, had to wait 15min for a table. However it was worth it! Great ceviche, chicken mole taco and the churros with chocolate sauce are to die for!

Holy cow. I've never been disappointed by anything here, but the Huevos Ahogados brunch item is one of the best Mexican meals or breakfast meals I've ever had! Make it a priority. So good!!
    Lucas Siegel · August 9, 2014

Happy hour tacos for $2 are good. I like the chicken mole, veggie and fish best. House margaritas on tap are kinda gross. Get a fresh made one. Guacamole is awesome too but pricey.
    Maria Montesano · June 1, 2015
  • Sean S.
What you want: Pitcher of 1/2 Sangria & 1/2 Margarita and order of the fresh made guacamole & chips. If you do tacos, plan on getting some crazy hot habenero sauce on the side.
    Sean Salmon · August 20, 2012
  • jill n.
Must add, the food was done very well (excellent guacamole, good tacos, many vegetarian friendly options and friends LOVED the Plato Don), but, unfortunately, worst margarita I've ever had.

Maybe I went on an off night? Crowded/close tables, friendly staff, short wait. Margarita clásica tasted watered down. Appetizer & entree were drowned in oil/sauce. Sides & dessert were good, though.

Favorite restaurant in the neighborhood for happy hour, dinner, takeout or brunch. Go early for brunch. The guac is delicious year-round.

very chill spot. great food. Tilapia tacos were on point. The spicy mayo really is really good. Also can't go wrong with their sangria

The tacos are top notch, and only $2 during happy hour ($3 normally). Try the sweet chicken mole, the bistec, and the carne enchilada.

Never ever ever come here on a Saturday night unless you want to wait 1.5 hours. Stick to weeknights & brunch or just order delivery. Fortunately the food and cocktails are well worth a long wait.

In the mood for tacos? If you're up to wait a line for a bit, this tiny bur really energetic place will give you all the tacos you want, plus a very good white sangria!

Food was terrible! Eggs were not fresh. I felt ill after. would never recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good Mexican food. Temperature of the refried beans=a one way ticket to food poisoning!

The tomatillo tortilla soup is incredibly delicious - it's hearty and has a great spicy (but not overwhelming) kick to it, the tomatillos add a nice layer of flavor as well
    Connie S · December 24, 2011

Happy hour is a good deal. Most tacos are $2 and drinks are $3 to $5. Cactus tacos are awesome. Be sure to get the salsa trio. The tomatillo salsa is great.

Avocado tostada. Might sound light, plain, bland even--it's not. Filling and boasting a very generous serving of avocado, it's engineered for maximum deliciousness. Do it.

Great old fashioned. Food was amazing. Roasted chicken with rice and beans is to kill for. Orchata was very good as well as the hand breaded chicken sandwich!

Chavela's does Mexican classics well and inexpensively—not reinventing the wheel, perhaps not worth traveling for, but reliable and tasty while you're there.

Guac, cheese tamales, tacos and the Vera Cruz fish is amazing (pretty big so could be a good sharing plate) can't go wrong with a few margaritas. Yum.

The Don Pepino (cucumber, cilantro, tajin) is pretty great. Like a spicy cucumber green apple jolly rancher--I know that sounds fucking weird, but it works).

Esquite, fish taco and a flor de calabaza quesadilla - split it at the bar with your main squeeze and wash it down with an icey margarita 👌🏻

Arrive before 11am, slightly after that the brunch crowd will fill up the whole place. Amazing drinks, amazing food, well-priced. Try everything.

Try the Bistec Taco And Chipotle Chicken Taco - Bistec taco was outstanding. Chicken was tasty but man the bistec was just so good it outshined the chicken.

The pitcher or half-margarita/half sangria are nothing to get too excited about... Not worth the higher price point. All the tacos on the menu are incredible!

Brunch is a great deal, $11 a plate plus $3 drink specials. The jalapeno hollandaise on my eggs was worth the meal alone! Good guac too.

It's good and not expensive. But don't accept guacamole it is not free ($7,50). A bit noisy but super friendly.

Great value and great food. Ambience is very chill and anything you get is good- tacos or enchiladas are always a solid choice as well.

Chicken enchiladas w/ salsa verde is top notch - tangy and savory at once. Pass on the guac and chips - needs more heat and bite

It is stunning how people seem oblivious that it failed its NY kitchen test, appealed for two months and only managed a B. It must be an awful kitchen to end up with a B. Cheap and tasty, but healthy?

Worth the trip to the neighborhood. Tamales and a side of rice and beans makes for a killer light dinner. Polish it off with a mescal cocktail.

If you are really hungry and want a large portion size order the "Plato Don" plates - it's about $16 and its enough food to feed 3 people.

Make sure the waitress tell you that things like lemon slices & salsa are extra. Love the place but the server we had wasn't on her A game.
