Make sure to swing by Reilly's Daughter in the back right of food court for a good pint of Guinness. Ask for Boz and then ask him about all the famous people he knows like Jenny McCarthy.

TSA TIP #3 Remove your laptop(s) and shoes/belts while waiting in line for the x-ray machines and carry them in your hands to be ready for the bins, remember laptops are placed in a bin by itself. · January 5, 2012

Get here early just to browse the many (somewhat overpriced) interesting shops. Take a look at Spirit if Red Horse for unique jewelry and the bookstore right across from it is pretty good! :)

Don't go to Gold Coast, if you must send someone tall enough to see when they make them because they got order wrong twice and said I lied about my order while not giving anyone a receipt! Run-on sent

Instead of the cell phone lot, use the short-term parking which leaves you just steps from the arrivals and meet your party in person as they get in. It's only $2 for a half hour of $4 for one hour.

Potbelly Sandwich is a must. Also, Gold Coast Dogs is decent but specializes in grilled dogs as opposed to the traditional steamed variety which are available upon request. Safe travels!

Sign up for wifi through your cell phone. MDW seems to not have a free wifi (except a southwest connection you need an access code for that I couldn't figure out how to determine a code as a southwest

TSA must have a roulette wheel wheel they spin to determine how the security checkpoints are going to be laid out that day. I travel on average once a month and the variance is significant.
    Hugo Gracia · December 1, 2014

If you get there a lil early to pick someone up go straight to the cell Phone lot on 61st & Cicero to wait those few minutes, instead of getting harassed by the Traffic Attendants.. #Patience

You can't bring bottled water with you through TSA; however you CAN bring an empty water bottle. Pack one in your carry-on so that you can fill it up at the water fountain before you board.
    Frank Hattula · October 18, 2011

The "expert" line is a facade. Everyone goes right thinking it will be shorter which leads to congestion AND it has the slower AIT machine. Go left to beat the wait and hit the X-Rays instead.

Its a 10min walk from the airport to the Cta Transit Trains sucks in the winter u have to walk with all your bag remember its $2.25 to ride exact amount no change provided and no public bathrooms

Potbelly and Manny's are good food choices. But WiFi's crap. Chances are you won't be able get on the overloaded "Free Public WiFi" and the paid Boingo WiFi is very buggy. BYO hotspot.

If you use the electronic boarding pass please note midway isn't always prepared for it as they have only 1 or 2 scanners. One is always In priority so instead of waiting in lone just go over.

All bars and food places are inside security. So, when u have to retrieve your bag, but then have to wait for your friends flights to arrive, u have to wait at bag claim, hungry and sober.

Service at the food court can be hit or miss. Service at other restaurants like Let Them Eat Cake or Taylor Street Market can be extremely slow. Lots to choose from but nothing exceptional, food wise

When the check-in line is as long as the airport itself, don't hesitate to use the curbside baggage check service offered by most airlines. A tip is polite, but it is worth the saved time.

The best thing about Midway was great access to the rental cars. Not anymore, they moved them off site and what once took 5 minutes now takes 45. But they're glad you're here. Fail Midway Fail.
    Ryan Sprague · April 18, 2013

I'll never understand why people print boarding passes at home. Save the ink and paper, head to a standalone machine and 5 seconds later, you have a nice, thick boarding pass - no folding necessary!

If you have more than three or four hours for a layover, hop on the orange line and hit the city. But get back at least an hour and a half before your flight since security can be slow.

Named for its location mid-way between IL's two busiest commerce hubs of the 19th c., Kankakee and Dekalb. Formerly a grandiose bus station, Midway International is Chicago's only functioning airport.

Looking for coffee/breakfast? Go to Potbelly! You can get coffee at Intelligentsia and a solid breakfast sandwich. You might think you can find something better, but trust me, you won't.

A wonderful alternative to O'Hare. Major carriers and discounted Southwest fly here. Easy access to the city. Though, I do not recommend Manny's for food. Manny's in town, sure but not here.

Potbelly is awesome: great sandwiches on freshly made bread, IBC rootbeer (regular & diet), delicious cookies, and Starbucks can't go wrong. Vegetarian choices too.

Always, always go to the security line furthest to your left. People naturally go right, which makes it crowded; plus, they put extra staff (or open new lanes!) on the left.

For vegans/veggies there is a salad place in Concourse B ( I think) called Salad Sprigs. You can get a VERY hearty salad there. I do not recommend the "asian dressing" its way too sweet.

Don't expect the Fly By Lane to get you through security faster. When you round that corner, you'll realize the line is 2x as long as the others and they only have 1 or *at most* 2 screening lanes. :(

The women's room by the chapel & the USO is the cleanest & is a great place to change clothes because there's hardly ever anyone else in there & there's lots of counter space.

TSA Pre check is the way to go. It's worth it any time of day - regular security check is always a long wait. Not because of TSA, just people galore, always!

If you're stuck here overnight, there is a guest area near A4. Cots, blankets, and pillows are provided. Not ideal, but a decent place to rest. Thank you, Chicago Midway!

Fingers crossed you get the far right security lane (which is also tsa pre check) because you don't have to take off your shoes or remove anything from your bag. 06/2014

Whichever security line you choose, the others are sure to move faster. Just chill and you'll be through soon. No matter how long it takes, flying is faster than driving!

Gate A4A and A4B are out of the way and don't have much seating BUT they have a bar with drinks to go! Get a drink and walk or take a seat near your gate.

Literally THE WORST tsa screening In the US. I travel a ton. Get there early. On a Friday at 11am it took 1 hour from the end of line to clear the X-ray. Pay for business select

Need to power up? If on Concourse A, head to the Traveler Center just past McD's. There is an outlet conveniently next to one of the phone booth stations. Makes the perfect desktop for working :)

One of many reasons why O'Hare sucks and Midway rocks is rental cars. At Midway you walk to the Garage Elevator, go to floor walk to car and you are out of airport in 10 minutes. O'Hare takes an hour!
TSA TIP #5 Once through the x-ray machines take your belongings (trays) off the belts & get re-packed & dressed in the areas designated for this rather than holding up the lines at the x-ray machines. · January 5, 2012
TSA TIP #1: Before getting to the screening check points clean out your clothing pockets as well as any metals/jewelry etcetera and put them into your carryon bags (or jacket pockets) ahead of time. · January 5, 2012

You can't check your bags at Southwest until 4 hours before your flight. If your hotel checkout is 11am and your flight isnt til 8pm, ask your hotel to hold your bags.
    Kelly Conrad · May 18, 2013

Use the curb side check in if you're here around 4:30, as the line is way shorter since the ticket counters don't open until then, to avoid the long lines inside.
    Josh Levey · September 1, 2011
  • Jacqueline B.
Southwest is literally the worst! They take forever to get your checked bags to baggage claim bc they don't pay their people enough and I have never not had a 2+hour delay with them! Todays delay is 4

Don't eat at millers. Horrific seating. No room for purse let alone bags. Floors filthy nasty. World famous ribs. Meh. I'm not a negative person just trying to save others from our experience.

Manny's in concourse B is horrible. My only good experience with them was when I took a dump 3 hours later. Burned pizza, crazy small and over priced portions, and horrible attitudes. AVOID!!!

If you're traveling during holidays, line to check baggage is >100 people & you, like me, cut timing way too close, check baggage outside. 1/5 wait time. They work for tip but I made my flight for $5.

It's summer in Chicago! Don't leave your water bottle behind, empty it and refill it at one of our filtered water refill stations after you pass security!

If you don't find something you like at the food court, go to terminal B. Some options: a Red Mango, a salad place and a beach cafe. #froyo #veganairportoptions

Free WiFi :) There are typically outlets to charge electronics but they're typically taken. As always, give yourself 40-60 min of flex time to accommodate for lines etc.
