    Chwee kueh #02-43! The kueh was non-sticky and light, paired with chai por that is nicely fried, not drenched in oil. Chilli with hints of shrimp, the dish balances a light base and savory goodness!

    Wantan mee: Tradnal home-made local fave can b found @ Zhen Zhong Sin Hoe Kee (正宗新合记) #02-177. Noodles 'q' (chewy), char siew (BBQ pork) slices generous but slightly salty. Run by elderly couple Yeah!

    Economical rice with Peranakan twist. Babas Peranakan #02-225 sees long queues even though it's @ an obscure corner. Lots of (spicy) dishes to choose from. Chicken curry is a must

    Braised duck rice (or porridge). Run Ji #02-140.Simple serving of traditional staple. Duck meat slices were thick. Operated by friendly elderly lady. So expect old school cuts which incl bone bits :-)

    Emerald Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle @ #02-044: 1 out of 2 stalls where mum likes to da-bao whole chicken back home. Its flavourful & not too saltish, I also like. This stall is slightly cheaper

    Hong Kong Mongkok Dim Sum @ #02-097: Mum's favourite place for fresh & meaty Har Gao, Siew Mai & Char Siew Bao. When she got craving, she would take 1.5hrs bus to & fro to da-bao one box each of those

    Yuet loy food store (#02-151) serves good Cantonese dishes. Ordered beef kailan, black bean fish head, salted fish chicken and golden coin tou fu. All highly recommended. Yum yum !!

    Apart from the L2 food centre, do not miss the basement wet market for fresh fish, freshly-made Yong Tau Foo and many more. For the uninitiated, a bit overwhelming but that's part of the fun!

    Ignore overload of tips abt Yue Ping fried pumpkin cakes. It doesn't exist. It's now Chai Chee Cuttlefish (yummy snack!) Examine the phantom contributors in 2011, that's all they spam abt. Fishy :-(

    Elder says come here to buy seafood (tiger prawns/crayfish/cuttlefish) & thick mushroom for BBQ. Its a fresh seafood exhibition here with lots of choices & sizes & free advise of what texture suitable

    DIY popiah: Fortune Food #02-004 sells handmade (actually central kitchen) popiah skin ($15/kg), ground peanuts, crispy bits, chilli sauce, etc to host ur own popiah party @ home. Convenient!

    Local kopi. Make a bee-line for "五十年代", a coffee stall to the left of the escalator as u come up. Kopi was thick, strong & smooth. Saw a bean grinder inside. Presume they grind them fresh ;-)

    Outram Park Roasted Meat #02-13/14 is as good as our 4SQ friends described. Pork & duck meat skillfully roasted, w a wonderful smoky fragrant & flavour. Chilli sauce thick & not so spicy.

    Soya sauce chicken noodle: Affordable $2.50, tastes nice. But I wouldn't q up 20mins again @ Hong Kong #02-127. Also tried char siew & sio bak (crispy roast pork). U better off stickg w chicken ;-)

    Super shiok xiaolongbao & guo tie at stall 135, great fried mee swa & fried chicken w onion sauce at stall 153. And of course, Good Beer Co at 335 is an institution in itself!

    Nutritious Soft Liquid Food: Black Sesame Paste. Wholesome dessert good for bone-strengthening and darker hair, but its 'heaty food'. Need to drink cooling stuff after that.

    I think that this is the main Hawker Center in Chinatown. Go here for clay pot rice (which is great) or dessert soups. This is also where I've seen juiced sugar cane.

    Wantan mee: Tong Kee's (#02-111) wantan is bigger than d usual 1s u get @ mediocre stalls, chock full of minced pork. Nice. Noodle was 'q' (springy 2 bite). Generous w char siew & vege sides too

    Closed once a month for thorough washing. All the food stalls will close so they can clean the place. Plenty of nice food here. Beware the pigeons stalking you from above ready to poop on you.

    Desserts: Used 2 patronise #02-224 in early days. Njoyed faves like black sesame paste, almond soup, green bean soup. Thick, chockfull of taste. Disappointed in last 2-3 years. Diluted, lacked essence

    When on doubt, follow the line. I checked out Sarawak Kolo Mee stall 02-40 and I wasn't disappointed. Yeah, a Malaysian reviewing Sarawakian hawker food in Singapore. Oh, the irony. 8/10

    As a Malaysian foodie, this hawker center offers a wide variety of local Singapore specialty at very reasonable prices. My favorites are mee pok and kway chap.

    Xiu Ji ikan Bilis Yong Tau Fu is the Best. 6 pcs and bee hoon $3 or 8 pcs at $3. Die Die must try.

    Grab a beer over at one of the 4 or 5 craft beer stalls. They're off in a corner, but very worth it. Beef noodle soup is VERY good

    香港油鸡饭面 Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice And Noodle is good. Take the 油鸡面 Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle, is just 2.50 sgd. Seasoning is very good, must try.

    Remember to visit Heng Ji Chicken Rice. Closed on every Sunday. The owner takes a 2 weeks holiday every June. Chk b4 u go. Singapore's Best Chicken Rice.
